I'm probably late on hearing about this, but searched and didn't see it mentioned anywhere on the site.

Apple is releasing a Japanese albums box set for the 50th Anniversary of The Beatles' Japanese debut.

Do you think they're going to rerelease the albums in every countries' format? Do you think Apple's going to far by continuing to sell the same songs in different orders and packagings over and over? Are you excited for the release/will you be purchasing it?

If I spoke prose you'd all find out, I don't know what I talk about.

It was posted in the news thread by Parlance.

The Japanese market is huge and Apple have released material for their market before, most notably the first two 1966 Japanese concerts back in the late 80's(?).

Will Apple release box sets for other countries? Who knows? Are there enough specific releases from other countries to do so even if they wanted to?

Is it right? I don't see the problem as long as they they get it right and don't put in rare or previously unreleased material.

Will i buy it? No. I have the songs and the releases mean nothing to me.

I'd imagine it would mean a lot the the Japanese, as does the US releases do, to the American's.

Me being Canadian, neither meant anything to me.  Canada Capitol had 3 unique LP's of our own, until they started using the US Capitol LP's, starting with A Hard Day's Night .

To me, the only LPs' that really matter are the Original UK releases.  That's the way the Beatles recorded & released them!a-hard-days-night-ringo-15

That's how I feel.

I found your post after I made this, @parlance. Don't know why it didn't come up in the search. It's still a relevant topic though...

Wow, some of those Japanese LPs have song sources that are even more jumbled than the Capitol albums - I don't think Capitol mixed songs from 1963 and '64 on one album, or not too often anyways. But at least they all have more than 11 songs each.

On the whole, I'd say those Japanese cobbled-together albums are better than the ones Capitol assembled, for what that's worth.

One day, a tape-op got a tape on backwards, he went to play it, and it was all "Neeeradno-undowarrroom" and it was "Wow! Sounds Indian!"

x-posted to the news thread:

Since at least one of our regular posters is in Japan, you might be interested in this about an insert in the Japan Box, from Beatles Blog:

“The text reads that you can enter a draw to win a special, one-song promo CD (not for sale) of “I Want To Hold Your Hand” – complete with the original Japanese 7-inch cover reproduced for the CD sleeve. The deadline is postmarked 9 July (in Japan) though….”

Sadly, the CD Japan site also says that this special offer/application postcard is valid only for purchases in Japan….

So, it looks like only a few lucky Japanese Beatle fans will be getting what undoubtably will become a collectors item to add to their Japan Box box sets.
