1. Ticket To Ride (One of my favourite songs, John’s vocal performance and Ringo’s heavy drumming are incredible! And the classic skiing scene in the movie, aww)
2. Help (A great rock song, a bumpy ride. John considered it one of his most representative works during Beatles years because it expressed how he truly felt. Yes, I can feel his emotion.)
3. Yesterday (One of Paul’s best songwriting efforts, simply great–though it’s now overplayed for me.)
4. You’re Going To Lose That Girl (I really like the call and response, the boys sing so genuinely. Interesting that contrary to “She Loves You “, they’re now taking the girl away!)
6. Another Girl (These two kinda sound alike, both built on steady drumbeats and featuring harmonies. I like TNB more because Paul sounds “so sincere”)
7. I’ve Just Seen A Face (A lovely tune that makes me happy. The speed changing between verse and chorus gives it a special feeling.)
8. You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away (Dylan’s influence is quite clear. It’s a tender love song, yet sounds a bit plain.)
10. I Need You (Another pair, remind me of those shy little boys who are clumsy in relationships. IOL comes forward cause I love John singing “loving you–”)
11. Tell Me What You See (John and Paul collaborated really well on this one.)
12. Act Natually (Really amusing when hearing Ringo sing this, considering he’s most involved in acting among the boys.)
13. You Like Me Too Much (It’s a decent tune, yet sounds a little weak among many wonderful compositions.)
14. Dizzy Miss Lizzy (Perhaps the only song I dislike on this album–too chaotic, kinda inharmonic as the ending.)

I can appreciate that’s it’s a good song, but it doesn’t inspire me whatsoever. If it was on the White Album , for example, it wouldn’t be last, it’s just that Help ! is a very good album.

I know what you mean. I actually haven’t listened to Yesterday for a very long time. I don’t dislike it per se, but I find myself rebelling against the reputation it has. Yesterday is almost in another category on Help , if that makes sense.

I partly agree with this, but Yesterday has some kind of emotional connection to me, I guess. It’s an okay song, but it’s also like, a perfect song at the same time.

I would definitely call it a perfect song. The melody is perfect and very satisfying to listen to with the way it resolves itself, and it fits perfectly with the also-perfect lyrics. I guess my problem with the song would chiefly be that it has a tendency to take credit away from other deserving Beatles songs, such as It’s Only Love or In My Life .

Yeah, I kinda feel the same way.
In fact, I used to feel the same way about HCTS… a Long, Long, Looooong time ago… but then I learnt how to play it and the act of doing so made it ‘mine’, somehow, and I’ve loved it ever since.

1. You’re Going To Lose That Girl – I know I’m going to get so much crap for ranking “filler” that high, but hear me out… THIS SONG IS CATCHY and so satisfying. I can’t help but claim this song as one of my definitive favorites, among the other tons of ’em.
2. Help !
3. Yesterday – Overplayed? Definitely. Still amazing though.
4. The Night Before – Talk about an underrated Beatles track…
5. Ticket To Ride
6. You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away – I’m not a huge Bob Dylan fan, but John is incredible here.
7. I’ve Just Seen A Face
8. It’s Only Love
9. Act Naturally
10. I Need You
11. Another Girl
12. Tell Me What You See
13. You Like Me Too Much
14. Dizzy Miss Lizzy – What needs to be said about this song? Compared to the other songs on the album it’s kind of weak. Not that it isn’t a good song. I love a lot of John’s songs, but here it just gets overpowered and is honestly not fit for this album, would be better on Beatles For Sale , for sure.
Now we get into the harder grading of these albums… Help ! is amazing, but that’s just what makes the Beatles, the Beatles. A great album, is just another album in their huge and absolutely beauty of a catalog.

You’re Going To Lose That Girl as number one? That’s something I can get behind!
Anyone who gives you crap for that has to speak to me first. Great song (and a great scene in the movie too!), so catchy. Love it.

Welcome to the forum by the way @knowhereman !
Thanks, I just had to find the right crowd to talk to about the Beatles, I had been browsing around here the other day reading other people’s rankings of the Beatles’ songs, and I decided to do some ranking myself.

My personal ranking:
14. It’s Only Love – I must be the only person who doesn’t place “Dizzy Miss Lizzy ” on the last place. Although I personally believe every song on this album is good, not all are “great”, including this one. I’m sure it’s a good song in many people’s eyes, but I never really got it. Apologies.
13. Tell Me What You See – Same as above.
12. You Like Me Too Much – Same as above(s).
11. Dizzy Miss Lizzy – A song with a fitting rocker theme that ends a pretty “ballad-y” album, but pretty dull as Beatles rockers go. However I do understand it’s place in the album and occasionally skip to listen to it from time to time.
10. Another Girl – In my opinion, the most uninteresting song in the movie “Help !”. Still a pretty good song, but somewhat forgettable as far as Beatles songs are concerned.
9. Act Naturally – I’m pretty bias, for Ringo is my favorite of the bunch. A pretty okay-ish transition into Side B of the album, but not really a stand-out in Ringo’s discography. Despite that, the vocals are more interesting and fun compared to the rest of the songs above (in my humble opinion).
8. You’re Going To Lose That Girl – From this song onward, I absolutely adore every song listed, especially among their teeny-bopper years. Nice little call-and-response section between John and Paul/George. The keyboard and the drumming is on point, however I feel the guitar is a bit lacking (which prevents me from placing it higher). Nevertheless, a very solid song in a very solid album.
7. I Need You – Similar to above, although the chorus (in my humble opinion) is slightly better synchronized than the song above.
6. Yesterday – Before any of you plot my assassination, let me just say that my ranking of all songs is based on pure bias (as all rankings are), and that I simply love this song too. The reason for the ranking is mostly because I don’t obsess over this song as much as the other songs ranked higher.
5. You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away – In my opinion, one of John’s best lead vocals in his career. Another thing I adore about this song is the rhythm guitar and the small little (flute?) instrumental in the middle.
4. Help ! – Gentlemen, please put down your pitchforks. My reasons for ranking is the same as “Yesterday “. I still love this song too.
3. Ticket To Ride – If you excuse me, I shall flee from the mob that has appeared in front of my doorstep. All jokes aside, I love almost everything in this song. highlights are definitely the vocals, drumming and technicality.
2. The Night Before – In my humble opinion, the most underrated track in the entirety of the Beatles teeny-bopper years. I imagine if this were recorded and released today, there would be a mass chaos in the music landscape. Alas, this is just but another song by the Fab Four.
1. I’ve Just Seen A Face – I’m sure nothing else I can say, would elevate the greatness of this song. I’m sure a lot of you all are thinking I am this funny weirdo.

Couldn’t agree more, The Night Before is really overlooked and also one of Paul’s finest pieces. For sure.

Glad to know I am not alone. A lot of people overlook this song as it is placed in between “Help !” and “You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away “, some of the most recognizable song of the album. George really delivers the rhythm section, Paul’s (or was it George’s) guitar solo is short yet fitting, and the call-and-response section between Paul and John/George is (in my humble opinion) as good as “You’re Gonna Lose That Girl”.
Side note: Every time i listen to “You’re Gonna Lose That Girl”, I always think of that scene from the movie where the cult leaders are cutting a hole underneath Ringo’s drum set.
Thanks for the support, I’m quite new and this is my first long post (aside from my introduction). Also glad to know there is someone newer than me (by about a day). Apologies if i sound stiff, I am rather socially awkward in real life.
I wish you a good day (sunshine).

No worries dude, I understand it completely. Reading others and such. I am very socially awkward myself, but talking with others about the stuff I love. Lets me break free a bit, I think the big thing for me is, I usually keep my mouth shut for the most part because I feel like I might slip up and say something a bit out of line, and people might take it in a way I didn’t intend it. I can be as literal as a dictionary sometimes, and I might not understand things people say right away.
The Beatles music has really changed my life and has helped me to become motivated and inspired me to be great. I want to text my mom everyday and tell her “Thank you.” for introducing me to such great music. I’m rather young on the age scale, and am also rather new to the forum. Glad to know many others share the same if not even more love for the music that has lifted my life from the bottom to the top.
Cheers.

That’s such a good point. It is undeniably a great song, yet it’s banished to the back catalogue. Very sad

Something both of you may or may not find interesting – a few weeks ago, there was a discussion in another thread about how introverted we all are, and we found that all but one person here is an introvert.
I’m certainly quite socially awkward too. But here, we all fit in.
