There seems to be various threads here about individual Beatles bootleg releases, but not one concerning bootlegs in general. This thread can be used to talk about bootlegged, rare or foreign albums/singles/DVDs etc.

Here's where I find a huge chunk of things -

I stumbled upon this interesting 1974 release on the Melodiya label, which most artists inside and outside the USSR came under during the 60s, 70s and 80s.

fvokaljno_i5aa8434b734bc60fb67a45.jpgImage Enlarger

The four songs on this EP(?) are I Should Have Known Better , Can't Buy Me Love , (both 1964) Lady Madonna (1968) and Maxwell's Silver Hammer (1969). A lot of Beatles releases on Melodiya have songs from different years. Does anyone know why this is?

I've brought this up in other places on the forum, but I'll bring it back up here. That is this Get Back ver. 2 bootleg that I really love.

Going back to The Beatles on Melodiya, I've found this reissue of the same EP from 1980:

http://collectorsfrenzy.com/de.....ery_rare

Melodiya released a collection of the songs featured on their EPs.

0_8507c_3a9aae2e_L.jpg

The tracks included are as follows-

Here Comes The Sun

Because

Golden Slumbers

Can't Buy Me Love

 Maxwell's Silver Hammer

 Lady Madonna

 I Should Have Known Better

With A Little Help From My Friends

Penny Lane

When I'm Sixty-Four

Lovely Rita

Across The Universe (Let It Be version I presume)

I Me Mine

Let It Be

 Octopus's Garden

Something

Come Together

However, this still doesn't explain why some of the EPs have songs from different years. Also, I wonder if @Joe would be interested in adding the Melodiya EPs (the only album of The Beatles released on Melodiya I have seen on the internet is AHDN ) to the discographies section.

Nothing yet? In the mean time, I was looking through the discographies section on the site and came across the Israeli 1971 release of Magical Mystery Tour .

Does anyone know why it was released there THAT year? Was it postponed or to make up for The Beatles splitting?

Yeah, and David Hasselhoff credits himself for bringing down the Berlin Wall.

The majority of The Beatles music was banned in the USSR for being "ideologically unsound" long into the '80s.

The state record label, Melodiya, was effectively a pirate label, in that during the Soviet-era foreign artists material would be released without permission and without royalty payment.

Here is a discography of Soviet-era Melodiya releases that feature The Beatles (I have given the English translations of their rather unimaginative and repetitive titles):

1967

Musical Kaleidoscope (Series 8)
(various artists) 10" LP: Melodiya 33?-20227-28
Girl

1974

Vocal-Instrumental Ensemble
7" flexi EP: Melodiya ?? 0004017-18; 7" EP: Melodiya M62-35691-92
Can't Buy Me Love / Maxwell's Silver Hammer // Lady Madonna / I Should Have Known Better

Vocal-Instrumental Ensemble
7" flexi EP: Melodiya ?62-04111-12; 7" EP: Melodiya M62-35903-04
With A Little Help From My Friends / Penny Lane // When I'm Sixty-Four / Lovely Rita

Vocal-Instrumental Ensembles of the World
(various artists) 7" flexi EP: Melodiya ?62-04119-20; 7" EP: Melodiya M62-35967-68
Birthday

Vocal-Instrumental Ensemble (England)
7" flexi EP: Melodiya ?62-04199-200; 7" EP: Melodiya M62-36715-16
Across The Universe / I Me Mine // Let It Be

1975

Vocal-Instrumental Ensemble
7" flexi EP: Melodiya ?62-04449-50; 7" EP: Melodiya C62-05613-14
Here Comes The Sun / Because // Golden Slumbers /Carry That Weight /The End

Vocal-Instrumental Ensemble (England)
7" flexi EP: Melodiya ?62-04449-50; 7" EP: Melodiya C62-05613-14
Octopus's Garden / Something // Come Together

1986

A Hard Day's Night
12" LP: Melodiya C60 23579 008 (C60 23579-08)
A Hard Day's Night / I Should Have Known Better / If I Fell / I'm Happy Just To Dance With You / And I Love Her / Tell Me Why / Can't Buy Me Love // Any Time At All / I'll Cry Instead / Things We Said Today / You Can't Do That / I'll Be Back

A Taste Of Honey
12" LP: Melodiya C60 23581 008 (C60 23581-82)
PS I Love You / Do You Want To Know A Secret ? / A Taste Of Honey / I Saw Her Standing There / Baby's In Black / No Reply / I'll Follow The Sun / Eight Days A Week // I Don't Want To Spoil The Party / Rock And Roll Music / Please Mr. Postman / It Won't Be Long / Till There Was You / Little Child / Devil In Her Heart / I Wanna Be Your Man

A Hard Day's Night
12" 2xLP: Melodiya C60 23579 008
the above two albums as a double album

The Place to Meet. Discotheque. Volume 2
(various artists) 12" LP: Melodiya C60 24507 005
Medley of the Beatles Songs (a very strange concoction of Ain't She Sweet /A Hard Day's Night /I'm Happy Just To Dance With You /Things We Said Today /Any Time At All /Ain't She Sweet )

Melodiya claimed that the A Hard Day's Night and A Taste Of Honey albums were licensed from EMI in both albums artwork. If so, that would make these two albums the first legal Beatles releases in Russia.

Melodiya also included a few Beatles tracks on LPs made for educational purposes, but these were not for general sale.

I've talked more about foreign releases, but not really talked about bootlegs on this thread yet. Hopefully, I will get around to doing that eventually. Anyways, I thought I should bring this back up now the Melodiya thingie is kinda solved.

Okay, I have been looking through the Israeli discography, and this would be my analysis.

The first thing to note about the discography once it begins in 1964 is that it largely follows the UK Parlophone releases across all formats - single/EP/album.

A big gap appears to be the 1967 MMT double EP. Was it released in Israel?

In the comments on the discography it is suggested they did. So, what is the evidence?

Discogs certainly lists one as existing:

Israel-MMT-EP.jpgImage Enlarger

However, it is given the same catalogue number as the UK stereo release.

Here is a picture of the label on disc 1, side 1:

Israel-MMT-EP-Disc-1-Side-1-Label.jpgImage Enlarger

Now, that is definitely not a UK Parlophone label.

I wonder if, because the sleeve for the MMT EP was quite complicated, that they had EMI in England supply them with sleeves and used the UK cat. no. because that was what was on the sleeve.

When they ran out of sleeves, rather than order a new batch, they reissue the discs as two separate 3-track EPs in late-'68.

Then, the release of the LP in 1971 makes sense. It is the last existing album, as they have already released Hey Jude , they have to release...

Just as EMI released it in the UK in 1976, the first moment contracts allowed them to do so, it can be assumed they did the same in Israel, and it allowed them to fill an album-shaped hole in the catalogue...

Hi there, I ordered a Pakistani Beatles EP. It´s an "imported one" like this one
http://www.popsike.com/Beatles.....04366.html

So how do I know, that I have a Pakistani instead of an English pressing
In the popsike-offer is written, that:"NOTE; APPLE RECORDS MADE IN PAKISTAN DID NOT HAVE THE COUNTRY OF MANUFACTURE PRINTED ON THE LABELS."

How to know, where the record comes from? Thanks in advance!

If there's one country that says unusual foreign bootlegs, it's Thailand.

the-beatles-lady-madonna-tk-records.jpg

Ever thought that the Lady Madonna single need more Monkees.

the-beatles-savoy-truffle-t-k-records.jpg

Or maybe you think that Savoy Truffle deserves it's own EP with The Banana Splits on the cover.

the-beatles-hey-bulldog-mtr.jpg

How about we put Sky Pilot with Hey Bulldog .

the-beatles-a-hard-days-night-mgm.jpg

EPhelpTHAI_FT%20973.jpg

Do you like the US discography but hate how Help ! and A Hard Day's Night have non-Beatles songs in them, Thailand has got you covered.

various-artists-let-it-be-mtr.jpg

I never wished that Instant Karma was on the B-side to Let It Be but if you do then you should go to Thailand.

the-beatles-hey-bulldog-2.jpg

Last but not least, what could debatably be considered the best non-UK Beatles release of all time, a Yellow Submarine EP, this alone makes me love Thailand.

^^Wow, there are some really weird releases among them! This EP with Savoy Truffle and 'The Beatle' on the sleeve is so hilarious - I would love to have it only for the great cover (and because those for songs are among my favourites on the WA).

Recently, I found a Beatles bootleg series on discogs called The Beatles - Alphabeat, where each volume was named after a specific song and contained every, and with every I mean literally every, release of that specific song that was ever made. On the one hand, I find this so fascinating and would really like to listen to them, one the other hand, however, this is so illegal it gives me a bad conscience to even think about wanting to listen to it. Or maybe it's ok after all these years? I don't know enough about music business.

Not once does the diversity seem forced -- the genius of the record is how the vaudevillian "When I'm 64" seems like a logical extension of "Within You Without You" and how it provides a gateway to the chiming guitars of "Lovely Rita. - Stephen T. Erlewine on Sgt Pepper's
