Last night I had one of those moments while listening to the medley where I was completely swept away and left in awe of the medley, the album, and the band’s entire catalogue. 

I just wanted once again acknowledge the greatness of the Abbey Road Medley, the best rock and roll ever recorded.   

I love those moments. heart 

Because the Fabs are gear, it blows my mind…

John changed Mister Mustard’s sister’s name from Shelley to Pam to accommodate the medley and i’m pretty sure helped piece it all together. John wouldn’t have done that if he was opposed.

I can’t recall hearing about this either way, but perhaps he was initially reluctant rather than completely opposed.

John certainly thought the medley tracks were poor fragments thrown together 

I liked the A side. I never liked that sort of pop opera on the other side. I think it’s junk. It was just bits of song thrown together. And I can’t remember what some of it is. Come Together is all right. And some things on it… It was a competent album, like Rubber Soul in a way, it was together in that way, but it had no life really.

My favourite moment has to be in You Never Give Me Your Money when Paul goes ‘soon we’ll be away from here, step on the gas and wipe that tear away”.

That is just one of those lines and moments that seems too perfect to be true. 

My second favourite one is when the YNGMYM theme comes back in Carry That Weight played on the brass section.

I also love Paul’s vocal on Golden Slumbers (better than Oh! Darling IMO).

However I must say I’m not a fan of the second ‘comedy’ act (Mustard-Window). If I had my way it wouldn’t have been included. Controversial I know but what can I say, I’ve never much liked The Beatles’ goofy moments.

I feel the need to ask, why do people combine these 2 medleys and refer to it as one big medley, there are 2 medleys, the first one being The Abbey Road Medley, which consists of You Never Give Me Your Money , Sun King , Mean Mr. Mustard, Polythene Pam , and She Came In Through The Bathroom Window , and the second one being The Golden Slumbers Medley, which consists of Golden Slumbers , Carry That Weight , and The End . She Came In Through The Bathroom Window and Golden Slumbers don’t connect and there is a brief period of silence in between the 2 songs, so why do people label this thing as one big medley when it’s in fact 2 separate ones, I never understood this, I know there’s a brief reference to You Never Give Me Your Money during Carry That Weight , but then again Bicycle Race references Fat Bottomed Girls and no one calls those 2 songs a medley.

In You Never Give Me Your Money , when Paul sings “and in the middle of investigation, I break down”, I like how there is echo added to the word “down” as if he’s had enough of it all and he and the music then tumble down into a dream or daydream to a happier time when he was younger and had no money or cares.  It reminds me of when he was upstairs on the bus in A Day In The Life : “Somebody spoke and I went into a dream”.

I always saw HCTS and Because being part of the suite of songs. That the suite covered the whole side. I feel that way because John wrote a sort of part two of HCTS with Sun King and quotes “Here Comes The Sun … king”. It sort of all goes together. Because is a tough one to make fit but it all feels like it goes together.

I don’t see why you would split them @dark overlord. If you read about the creation of it it doesn’t mention anything about them deciding to make two medleys. The reprisal of the theme wouldn’t be there if they were separate, certainly.

FBG and BR are irrelevant as they are on separate sides of a single so can’t run together in a flow, whereas the Abbey Road medley is all on one side and flows continuously.

And you say that She Came In Through The Bathroom Window doesn’t link/flow directly to Golden Slumbers which doesn’t make sense as Mean Mr Mustard does’t link with Sun King so by your logic there are three medleys.

I say we just refer to it as one medley.

I think he means that the sound isn’t continuous; “Bathroom Window” fades out to silence. There isn’t a crossfade or anything.

Also, Sun King and Mean Mr. Mustard do connect, the intro drum fill to Mean Mr. Mustard starts while the final guitar chord from Sun King is still sustained.

He’s talking about YNGMYM –Sun King most likely, but they also connect through the bird chirps in bewteen the 1-2-3-4-5-6-7 ending and the Sun King riff.

The reason people refer to it as a single Medley, @Dark Overlord, is because they did.

Find me a quote from one of them where they talk about the two (or three) Medleys on Side Two.

You could say that but then again think of it this way, would you consider We Will Rock You and We Are The Champions a medley. Sure, they’re always played together and you can’t have one without the other but there’s silence in between them, it’s not like Freddie started singing “I’ve paid my dues…” while Brian’s still playing his guitar solo, there’s a moment of silence, same here.

Do I consider We Will Rock You and We Are The Champions a Medley, @Dark Overlord? No, because Queen never said that’s how they should be regarded. Show me a sourced Queen quote that says they regarded those songs as a Medley.

The Beatles did refer to those songs that make up the Medley as the Medley (The Big One, A Huge One) though. They didn’t talk about Medleys, however much you want to claim that a silence in the Medley meant they intended them as two separate Medleys.

They called it the Medley, so we do.

You could go both ways I guess, you could consider it one big medley or you could consider it two different medleys, it’s like picking the red pill or the blue pill. I personally think that if there’s silence in between a song, it makes it not a medley but you could also say that the reprise of You Never Give Me Your Money during Carry That Weight connects the songs together or you could go with what The Beatles say.
