I hope this doesn't hurt my brain.
1.) I Want You (She's So Heavy)
2.) Come Together
4.) The End
5.) Something
6.) Because
7.) Golden Slumbers
8.)Oh! Darling
9.) Octopus Garden
10.) Polythene Pam
11.) She Came In Through The Bathroom Window
12.) Her Majesty
13.) You Never Give Me Your Money
14.) Mean Mr. Mustard
15.)Sun King
That was tough especially with the medley songs. I had a hard time deciding which I liked better individually! I know it's weird that I have Her Majesty above a lot of the songs but I'm actually very fond of that little diddy!
Try to realize it's all within yourself, no one else can make you change....

With the understanding that the medley is the medley and my brain can’t deal with breaking that up…
Here Comes The Sun : Because I just feel really, amazingly AMAZING when I hear it. Lifts my soul!
Something : As Frank Sinatra said, the best Lennon / McCartney of all time… (um… Frank? About that)
The Medley: It’s the medley. People who say “which medley” need not apply for my friendship.
I Want you (She’s so Heavy): How many timing signatures here? Wow.
Maxwell’s silver Hammer: Why so high? My daughter’s and I love this. 7 and 4. They don’t get the lyrics yet thank god!
Oh Darling: Killer vocal by Sir Paul
Come Together : I only put it this low because I think it’s a jab at Paul from John and I hate that crap. “1 and 1 and 1 is 3… Got to be good lookin’ cause he’s so hard to see”? You’re on the outside looking in Paulie. BUT… John’s vocal is fantastic. The riff here… bass line. Classic tune and without the undercurrent I hear it rates much higher.
Because : The version on Love? With just the vocal? Sublime. This version? Also Sublime. The band Sublime? Not so much.
Octopus’s’ Garden: My kids and I love this one too. Wish I could play like George does on this one. Ringo’s vocal is perfect and it’s only last because, well, this is Abbey Road after all! Like being the 9th richest person in the world. You’re still doing pretty well there aren’t you!

Haha, are you referring to people who think of it as TWO medleys? (Because of the lack of any segue between "...Window" and "Golden Slumbers ".)
GEORGE: In fact, The Detroit Sound. JOHN: In fact, yes. GEORGE: In fact, yeah. Tamla-Motown artists are our favorites. The Miracles. JOHN: We like Marvin Gaye. GEORGE: The Impressions, Marvin Gaye. PAUL & GEORGE: Mary Wells. GEORGE: The Exciters. RINGO: Chuck Jackson. JOHN: To name but eighty.

Weakest is Oh Darling (prefer the Paul and John duet on Anthology and think that John would have sang it better than Paul).
However Abbey Road is the only album (and that includes non beatles albums) where i think - ok i'll listen to (for example) You Never Give Me Your Money onwards, oh but Because is before that, no will go from Here Comes The Sun , no wait I Want You, no Octopus's Garden - and end up playing the whole darn album.

I personally think this is the best album ever recorded! The medley is the single most genius piece of musical mastery I've ever heard. So...here goes...
1) The Medley
Rated individauly: 1) You Never Give Me Your Money
2) She Came In Through The Bathroom Window
3) Golden Slumbers
4) Sun King
5) Polythene Pam
6) Mean Mr. Mustard
7) The End
8) Carry That Weight
2) Oh! Darling (don't think John would've even come close to rippin' that one out like Macca did!)
3) Come Together (great bass line, great rythym section for that matter)
4) I Want You {She's So Heavy} (another great bassline to a badass blues progresser)
5) Something (gorgeous...Georgeous)
6) Because (best harmonies ever!)
7) Maxwell's Silver Hammer (song just swings)
8) Octopuses' Garden (love the background vocals and underwater overdubs, worked great for Cirque!)
9) Here Comes The Sun (moog, baby, moog!)
10) Her Majesty (not a part of the medley!)

Nothing to do with ranking but this is how life kicks you.
July 1969.
The Beatles are slowly drifting apart and at times its pretty hard work.
Apple is a nightmare and Klein is in sacking everyone making the place even more miserable.
John and Yoko have gone to Scotland and been in a car accident, Yoko quite badly and so she has to remain in bed.
Beatle sessions resume for a new album so John has to turn up and has Yoko wheeled into EMI studios in her bed.
And what song does he find is being recorded on his first day back?
The nemesis of non-Paul Beatles, the song that had the other 3 waking up screaming in the middle of the night after hours of rehearsal in Twickenham.
I bet John was not amused and its no surprise he stayed in the control room.

1. Golden Slumbers (This song might just be my very favorite Paul song. The melody is hauntingly beautiful, and Paul’s voice is just too perfect. This song makes the medley. Like every other song on the album, the placement of this one is perfect.)
2. The End (This song is so great, sometimes I get upset thinking about it too hard. It seems like in that one song, they summed up their whole field of existence. Not their best, or most mind-blowing, but by far the most intense in a different sense of it all.)
3. You Never Give Me Your Money (I just really like this one. I think it's Paul's songs that really make the medley the best.)
4. Mean Mr. Mustard (I really love this song, and when it comes on, even if I know it's coming I get really excited because the beginning is my favorite!)
5. Octopus's Garden (Quite possibly the happiest song I have ever heard. This one gets me so happy there are times I just can't stand it.)
6. Maxwell's Silver Hammer (I absolutely love this song! I love how happy it is considering what it's about. Paul's story-telling songs are my favorites.)
7. Here Comes The Sun (This song is so funny. Keep it coming, LOL! I can't even think about it. Keep it coming? Oh my gosh, I think I'm dying.)
8. She Came In Through The Bathroom Window (By itself, I think this song is fantastic, and it being in the medley makes it all that much greater.)
9. Her Majesty (Love it! Even though every time it comes on it scares me, it is a great end to the album. Such a cute little song.)
10. Something (George's two songs on this album are really good. This is the first album where I feel all of his songs are just as, if not stronger than John and Paul's songs. So, yeah. I love this song.)
11. Carry That Weight (The placement of this song is just perfect. And when they bring in You Never Give Me Your Money ? It's pretty amazing.)
12. Because (I was very obsessed with this song for a really long time. The song itself really doesn't seem that great, but their voices are just too much.)
13. I Want You (She's So Heavy) (I go back and forth with this one. The instrumental part is great, though sometimes the repetitiveness of it gets to me. John's vocals just kill me, and when Paul goes in too? Oh my gosh! I think most of the times I listen to it, though, I cannot keep my attention on it the whole time, and the end bugs me for the most part of when I listen to it.
14. Oh! Darling (I loved this one for the longest time, but I can't listen to it too much now, because it gets old fast.)
15. Polythene Pam (Not my favorite part of the medley, but not at all bad.)
16. Come Together (Great song, but overall nothing all too much extraordinarily special about it. Also, I don't know why, but it really bugs me that this was a double A-side single. This should have been the B-side!)
17. Sun King (This one is good, but my favorite part is how it transitions to Mean Mr. Mustard for sure. It's too quiet and it drags. I have to be in the mood for it or else it just makes me really upset.)

12 April 2012

Wow unknown, after reading your post I decided to make a new ranking.
17. Sun King (sorry but I think it's a bit boring (I like it, though))
16. Come Together (I see it like you unknown great song but nothing very special)
15. Oh! Darling (This was my favourite Abbey Road song but I think I've just listened to it too much (still a great song but I often skip it)
14. I Want You (great song I like it but in the end I just think come on I've listened to this coda for 3 minutes or so, stop it)
13. Polythene Pam (It fits well in the medley but as a song it's a bit annoying (especially the first guitar chords although I like them in the medley after mean mr. mustard). I like the solo in the end which leads to SCITTBW
12. Octopus's Garden (my favourite Ringo song but I just don't like his voice)
11. Her Majesty (Paul should have put it on McCartney (his solo album) I think The End is a better ending (with the long orchestra only part audible in the anthology version which it closes). Great song, though, I'm a big fan of it, would fit better on let it be than Maggie Mae )
10. Because (I love this song especially it's 3 part harmony and it's harpsichord, it's guitar and george's moog which is amazing in this song. I just prefer the next songs.
9. Carry That Weight (I love this song even more, the reprise of You Never Give Me Your Money , the little solo after the refrain, just awesome. I just don't like the change from Carry That Weight to the end I think they should have made it one note earlier or later I'm not sure but it feels like there's one note too much or too little)
8. Maxwell's Silver Hammer (oh awesome song with it's moog and it's so happy although the lyrics aren't happy at all. George's bass playing is amazing in this song)
7. Mean Mr. Mustard (after Revolution my second favourite john song, it's so nice I like it's fuzz bass. The most amazing part is when paul comes in in the mean old man part there it becomes a two part harmony, and then in the end the rythm change after which it turns to Polythene Pam , just amazing.)
6. You Never Give Me Your Money (oh it's so amazing with it's many parts)
5. Here Comes The Sun (definitely one of george's best songs)
4. Something (even better than hcts, it's solo is awesome than the organ and the orchestra, it's simply awesome)
3. The End (it's four solos (by every beatle) are amazing and then sudden,y the piano comes in and then the end in the end piano part, so awesome. Te end of the end is even better in the anthology version with it's long orchestra only part (although in general I prefer the Abbey Road version of the end, the guitars during ringo's drum solos are nice but not better than the solo without them and it misses too much of the song))
2. She Came In Through The Bathroom Window (this song is awesome, the lead guitar and bass line are amazing (maybe both played by mccartney but I think at least one thing is played by harrison) the backing vocals are awesome, it's just awesome)
1. Golden Slumbers (such a nice song, the teamwork of piano, strings and bass in the beginning is so amzing then the amazing chorus and then the little strings solo in the second verse after "to get back homewards". This song is the best song of all time.
All in all Abbey Road is definitely my favourite album, every song is awesome

17. Her Majesty -- not even a real song anyway, so whatever...
16. Maxwell's Silver Hammer --my least fav full song bcuz of its offset quirkiness, and it is very fruity and inconsistent with the rest of the album
15. Golden Slumbers -- a great beginning of The End with some fine vocals, but not as memorable as the rest...after all, most of these are a 10 on a scale from 1-10.
14. Carry That Weight -- same deal, but I like the chorus
13. The End -- the grand finale is overshadowed by all the previous songs; they're all just that good
12. Mean Mr. Mustard -- a good middle for Lennon's Medley contribution, catchy but not pure bliss like both bordering bits
11. She Came In Through The Bathroom Window -- an absurd and goofy tune, with clever lyrics, nice to listen to but nothing particularly memorable
10. You Never Give Me Your Money -- love the buildup/breakdown of elements, all the portions fit...nothing to dislike, just nothing to put it over the top
9. Oh Darling! -- great vocals, nice piano and guitar riffs, a real classic rocker...not at the level of others on the first half, however
8. Polythene Pam -- here true greatness lies--it harkens back to psychedelia in a new way, and a high-flying melody, however brief
7. Here Comes The Sun -- a classic, great in every sense of the word, but just does not resonate with me as well as others
6. Sun King -- best part of the Medley, just so relaxing and freely orchestrated
5. Octopus's Garden -- Ringo's best in the band, bar none, with a cosmic sense of wonder
4. Because -- excellent vocal replication, lyrics of wonder and a melody so simple it rings true
3. I Want You/She's So Heavy -- powerful stuff, especially that ending--audacious as that white noise engulfs us, and cut!
2. Something -- everything as expected, beautiful, pure, resonate, deep and true, Harrison at his heights
1. Come Together -- just a beautiful bluesy bitch; pure awesomeness every time you listen to it. What else can you say?
