The concert was initially scheduled to take place on Sunday 10 June, but was postponed for a day because Starr, 77, was unwell.
I’m sorry to disappoint my fans and everyone who came to the show today [Sunday], I hope to see you all tomorrow. Peace and love, Ringo
Klaus Voormann joined Starr and the band for an encore of The Beatles’ 1967 song With A Little Help From My Friends. Watch it here:
Voormann met The Beatles in 1960 at Hamburg’s Kaiserkeller, where the band were alternating sets with Rory Storm and the Hurricanes, for whom Ringo was drummer. They remained firm friends, and in 1966 Voormann was asked to design the cover artwork for The Beatles’ Revolver album. He also appeared on various solo albums by John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, and in the 1990s designed the artwork for the Anthology project. Starr and Paul McCartney both performed on Voormann’s 2009 solo album A Sideman’s Journey.
The Hamburg show was the sixth date of Starr’s 2018 tour. This is the 13th incarnation of the All-Starr Band, and features the return of Colin Hay as well as new member Graham Gouldman, formerly of 10cc.
