Recording: Run Of The Mill, Art Of Dying, Hear Me Lord by George Harrison

Studio Three, EMI Studios, Abbey Road
Producers: George Harrison, Phil Spector
Engineers: Phil McDonald, John Leckie

Wednesday 1 July 1970 was the 19th recording session for George Harrison’s third solo album All Things Must Pass.

Two songs were worked on: ‘Run Of The Mill’, which had been worked on during earlier sessions on 29 May and 24 and 30 June; and ‘Art Of Dying’, which had been attempted on 29 May and 10 June.

‘Run Of The Mill’ was recorded in 22 takes, numbered 40-61, the last of which became the album master.

Prior to take 45, Harrison led the band through a performance of The Beatles’ ‘Get Back’.

Sixteen takes of ‘Art Of Dying’, numbered 11-26, were then recorded. The arrangement went through a number of changes before the final attempt, which appeared on All Things Must Pass, was recorded.

Also recorded during this session were overdubs for ‘Hear Me Lord’.
