Recording: What Is Life, Awaiting On You All, Beware Of Darkness by George Harrison

Studio Three, EMI Studios, Abbey Road
Producers: George Harrison, Phil Spector
Engineers: Phil McDonald, John Leckie

Monday 22 June 1970 was the 14th recording session for George Harrison’s third solo album All Things Must Pass.

Three songs were worked on during this session, none of which had previously been recorded: ‘What Is Life’, ‘Awaiting On You All’, and ‘Beware Of Darkness’.

Eleven takes of ‘What Is Life’ were recorded, followed by two of ‘Awaiting On You All’, the first of which was incomplete. The latter song had the working title ‘Open Up Your Heart’.

The session finished with five takes of ‘Beware Of Darkness’.

That was a great track to cut, we had two drummers and two bass players, Klaus played a six-string bass and Carl played a four-string bass, Eric, me and Dave Mason all played guitars.

‘What Is Life’ and ‘Beware Of Darkness’ were returned to the following day, while ‘Awaiting On You All’ was re-recorded on 26 June.
