Room 65, EMI Studios, Abbey Road
Producer: George Martin
Engineer: Norman Smith
While The Beatles were on tour in Glasgow, George Martin oversaw mono mixes of two songs recorded for Beatles For Sale, and both sides of their next single. The session lasted from 2.30-5.45pm.
He began with the creation of four mono mixes of ‘I Feel Fine’. The third of these was used for the UK single; the fourth was sent the following day to Capitol Records for release in North America. The other two were unreleased.
Martin had mixed ‘She’s A Woman’ in mono on 12 October 1964, but it was for the UK only. On this day he created a new one for Capitol.
In between mixing the two songs, he made a mono version of ‘I’ll Follow The Sun’, and the day concluded with a mix of The Beatles’ cover version of Carl Perkins’ ‘Everybody’s Trying To Be My Baby’. Both songs had been recorded on 18 October.
