The 14th stop on The Beatles’ UK tour with Roy Orbison was a concert at the Granada Cinema in Tooting, London. This was their only performance at this ornate cinema, which later reopened as a bingo hall.
The Beatles performed the same seven-song set throughout this tour: ‘Some Other Guy’, ‘Do You Want To Know A Secret’, ‘Love Me Do’, ‘From Me To You’, ‘Please Please Me’, ‘I Saw Her Standing There’ and ‘Twist And Shout’.

I was there at Tooting Granada clutching my 5/- ticket, couldn’t hear a thing for the screaming.
Hi Paul,
I’m writing a book about the Beatles in 1963 and would love to hear from you about the time you saw them in Tooting.
Regards
Dafydd Rees
Does anyone know if The Beatles stayed in Tooting on 1 June after the concert? Local historian, Geoff Simmons, has heard stories of the Fabs staying in Trevelyan Road just around the corner from the venue.
Ty
I am sure they went there twice
Two sets on the one day, according to the information I found.
“on 1 June 1965 The Beatles performed two sold-out sets”
no only once and roy orbison got 14 oncors and isaw john lennon grab roy back stage to stop him coming on stage again as he was using up the beatles time, also the noise was so great you could not hear the beatles and lennon was swearing on the mic instead of singing.i was on the side thee rows from the front roy orbison was fantastic and i cried when he sang in dreams.
I was 7 years old and my mother took me to this concert. We lived in nearby Mitcham and she took me along to pretty much every concert at the Granada. All I can recall is being fascinated by the shape of Paul McCartney’s bass guitar and being a little scared of the people dancing in the aisles to (I think) ‘I Saw Her Standing There’. By the time they played the Fairfield Halls Croydon it was impossible to get tickets so my mother and me took the bus to Croydon to stand in the street beneath the Beatles’ dressing room. They waved at us from an open window, which then closed, after which we went home.
Talking of John Lennon’s forthcoming 80th birthday, came upon your sight. I was in the front few rows of the stalls aged 13 and confess with my friend to standing on the seats screaming! Everybody did then, the hysteria was catching. I also saw Paul in Trevelyn Road driving a white Vauxhall Victor. My husband and myself were in the front row at the 02 to see Paul McCartney Dec 2018 when we witnessed Ringo and Ronnie Woods all together doing a song. Quite brilliant.
