Fifty years ago, outside the Gaumont Hanley together with about 12 – 15 other young girls, We were at the back where the dressing room was. I got a ladder from an entry, climbed it and knocked on the dressing room window, that was subsequently opened by George. John and Ringo also came to the window. George showing his concern that at 12 year old might fall, voiced his concern, then offered me a ciggy (from a packet of 10 Gold Leaf). John joked “Do you come here often”? and having shaken hands offered by both George and John (Ringo laughing throughout) I had to descend as a Policeman has come onto the scene and was ordering me to get down. George said in his wonderful gentle way, “You’d better do as he says. Have a nice life”. I said, “Thank you, and you”. John laughing and looking at George knowingly, said “Oh, we will”.
Hari Krishna and Peace and Love Dear George and John
my heart just melted this is the cutest thing. I would have given anything to have met them all. What was John like, was he as cheeky as everyone thinks? Did you notice anything about them that was above the ordinary, apart from obviously being the best musicians in the world. How many people were at the gig etc? It’s hard to believe that they were in my home town.
Did they not also play the Gaumont, Hanley on March 3rd 1963 – last night of the Helen Shapiro package tour?
