Live: Ernst Merck Halle, Hamburg

The Beatles hadn’t been to Hamburg since 1 January 1963, following their final residency at the city’s Star-Club venue. On this day, however, they were greeting as conquering heroes by an adoring crowd.

In the morning The Beatles were driven in a fleet of Mercedes cars, flanked by police on motorcycles, to Munich railway station. From there a special train took The Beatles from Munich to Essen for two shows at the Grugahalle.

The Beatles’ final UK tour ended with two concerts at the Capitol Cinema in Cardiff, Wales. They had previously performed at the venue on 27 May 1963 and 7 November 1964.

These were The Beatles’ final two shows at this venue, which was later renamed the Apollo. They had previously performed twice at the venue, on 20 November 1963 and 14 October 1964.

The Beatles had a tough drive through snow to get to their two concerts at the City Hall in Newcastle. It was the fourth and final occasion they visited the venue.
