OfflineI was listening to The Dark Side of The Moon & The Wall and I noticed that Pink Floyd & The Beatles were:
- Both were popular (according to me mom (DON'T LOOK AT ME));
- Had songs very different to each other (Let There Be More Light to On The Run, Revolution 9 to Twist and Shout);
- And were influential (there are as much (I think) tribute bands to both Floyd and Beatles)
Just sayin'

Offline…. and speaking of Pink Floyd/Beatles, Macca did an album with David Gilmour (Run Devil Run).
In the late '60s if you wanted to be really cool and show that you were really deep into the music scene, you'd throw out the name Pink Floyd and their double album Ummagumma (spelling?). Then, of course, with Dark Side of the Moon they became mainstream – big time!!!
Is it still the best-selling album of all time? (or does the Best of the Eagles have that honor – for a while it went back and forth,but I've lost track).

OfflineNot top anymore – Thriller is. They're third, behind Back In Black (AC/DC, for anyone who lives under a rock and has never heard of the album) (crickey, wrote that as Baby's in Black at first). That Eagles greatest hits albums is like 5 or 6.

Gilmour also appeared on Back to the egg (Rockestra, So glad to see you here), Give my regards to Broad Street (No more lonely nights) and Flowers in the dirt (We got married).
Pink Floyd is somewhere up there with The Beatles – but still completely different. Beatles were, while making the first true albums, always also a single band, in contrast to the Floyd.
PF also didn't develop their music as much (Mason is capable of excactly two different drum styles, for christ's sake!).
Plus it was always more like Roger Water's ego-project (the later the more), with a lot of help by Gilmour, in contrast to the Fab Four with all the different songwriters and ideas.
But their album strike is still impressive.
But next Beatles? I don't think anyone thought of them that way, the very least the boys themselves.
Still a great band. Meddle might be my favourite album.
And if you haven't heard "Is there anybody out there – The Wall live" – do it as soon as possible!
TOTALLY different experience than the studio album, and MUCH, MUCH more impressive!!!!!

The rooftop is quite crowded I must say.
thank you! oms noms noms.
Pink Floyd…. That reminds me, at the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame there was a giant wall (representing "the Wall" of course) with a really scary looking teacher popping over the side and an equally creepy looking "Roger Waters" that really was just some sort of nylon doll without a face on the other side. There was also a story about how Waters came up with the concept of The Wall. It was very weird and a little terrifying, but hey, it's art. The story talks about how Waters hated the fame that was thrust upon him and it led him to do some shocking things.
