Paul: (sighing) Look, the song’s NOT about drugs, all right? It’s about a bloody child’s painting. Not everything is about drugs!

SFMPM: Isn’t “Fixing A Hole ” about heroin?

Paul: NO!!

SFMPM: Well, anyways, you wrote some great love songs too. I like “Got To Get You Into My Life

From Thebeatlesonline.com: Some claim Yellow Submarine is a veiled reference to drugs. In New York, Nembutal capsules were apperently known as ‘yellow submarines’ at the time. However, Paul denied these allegations, insisting it was a children’s song.

I agree you can be a fan, or appreciate the Beatles without being as well educated about them as we are, but fake ‘biggest fans’ would say:

“Paul McCarthy’s a great singer… I love Yellow Submarine !”

“Paul sings, George plays guitar, Ringo drums, what does John do?”

And drumroll please…

“My favorite album is Yellow Submarine !” paul-mccartney

(I of course love the stuff on Yellow Submarine , but no real Beatles fan likes it more than everything else)

I really hate the people (and I know lots of people who are like this, mostly at my school) who DON’T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THEM EXCEPT THAT THEY TOOK DRUGS!!!!!

Some of my friends when I mention the Beatles are like “well, they were always high, so…” and it’s SO ANNOYING. They pick up on the Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds thing, and are like “well, if they weren’t always high, how come one of their song titles spells out LSD?” Then they put on a smug face. I HATE IT I HATE IT I HATE IT.

I mean, I get that they took drugs, and I know far more about their actual intake then you (my friends, not you guys, although I consider everyone here my friendheartExcept that Ahhh Girl lady, I really hate herahdn_ringo_09)

The boy band thing really annoys me too. No, they were a rock band. Maybe at the beginning they were boyband-ish, but after ’66? Not at all.

The fake fan thing happens with Doctor Who as well for me.

This reminds me of something else. I really hate being a fake fan, so I try not to talk about something As you probably have noticed, I’ve discovered Nirvana recently (Drain You is playing right now) and I’m really liking them. But, as I only know Nevermind and In Utero right now (I know, it’s 2/3 of their studio output) I am in the position of not having heard 1/3 of their studio output. Anyway, there’s a few people at my school who are really huge Nirvana fans. I was planning to approach them once I’d heard everything. One of them noticed a song from In Utero playing on my iPod, and came over, and said “Hey, you like Nirvana?” To which I replied yes, but had to add the, uh, but I actually haven’t heard Bleach yet. They didn’t seem to mind, but it was a little embarrassing.

Thanks for listening to my stories, I’ll be here all week, Drive home safely.

I like the way you stated that.

Keep on the high road and be a good ambassador for our Beatles. I know you have the power to win the winnable ones (“No one you can save that can’t be saved”).

This reminds me of the time I had a conversation with a girl who was probably trying to chat me up, but said she was a huge Beatles fan and liked John’s songs the best, then goes on to rattle off a list of Paul’s songs (Yesterday , etc) as examples. I gave her points for trying, at least.

My history teacher once confused Herman’s Hermits’ Henry the VII as a Beatle song. I literally faceplamed at the mistake.

And if you saw my love, I'll love her to.

We’ve discussed this on here in the past. Thing is, they were a boyband. The problem is that the term’s meaning and/or the type of group that fits under that category now has changed. I don’t really like to think of them as a boyband either (beacause it conjures up images of more recent bands, that have next to no talent, that I don’t care for), but they were one.

One time at my parents church the preacher was teaching the adults, after worship service. He was trying to use  The Byrd’s song “Turn, Turn, Turn” as a reference because it is verses from The Bible. He called it a Beatles song instead *facepalm*. They had to correct him.  I was about 17 or 18 at the time and I decided to sit in on the next classes to see if he made that mistake again. I guess it was safe to say that they embarrassed him enough not to. Luckily, the next preacher who use The Beatles in a sermon got the song and band right!

I’ve seen on youtube and elsewhere on the internet, where people put “Mrs. Robinson” by Simon and Garfunkel as a Beatles song.

Alright…I get all these song have tight harmonies or from the same era or even some Beatlesque. But really people?

Huh. I have yet to have a casual Beatle fan Look At Me with anything other than a blank face when I mention the cartoon.

Yeah, I didn’t even know there WAS a cartoon until I got hugely into them a few months ago. If they mention the cartoon, it generally means they’re pretty hardcore and should be immediately directed to beatlesbible.com/forum for all of their Beatley needs.

a friend of mine who is actually a big fan, owns all the albums and stuff, once said his favourite song by the beatles is “blue bird”…  😀 but as he was the beatles expert, i was thinking very hard if they possibly had any song called “blue bird” i may haven’t heard yet… till i dared to ask: “do you probably mean blackbird?” 😀

and i recently read “american psycho”, where he claims “you can’t always get what you want” is a beatles song. that really hurts a beatles-fan (and a rolling stones-fan probably as well a-hard-days-night-george-10)

And a fine song it is too. In the tv special James Paul McCartney Paul played a medley with these two back to back: Blackbird , Bluebird, Michelle , Heart Of The Country . You can hear and watch it here, skip to 2:55.

shame on me, then! :D but at least he can stay my master of beatles-knowledge ^^ (although it’s very careless to count a mccartney-song as a beatles-song, isn’t it?)

Liverpool tour guide reveals the funniest things he’s ever been asked

Here are the ones related to The Beatles.

Was John Lennon in the Beatles?

“We tend to get a lot of people on board who know about Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields, but not much else about the Fab Four.

“I once was nearing the end of my tour when all of a sudden a girl said: ‘So, you’re telling me John Lennon was in the Beatles?’”

tongue-out.JPGImage Enlarger

[This is a screen snip of the gif on the page. It’s funny.]

Weren’t the Beatles from America?

“I will never forget being on the Albert Dock chatting to a couple of Americans who asked why Liverpool was so obsessed with The Beatles.

“When I told them it was because this was their home, they got really angry with me because they were adamant that The Beatles were from America and that they were an American band.

“Thinking they were joking, I laughed it off, which only angered them further until the point where they got so annoyed with me they decided to Google it…”

Can you take us to the famous Abbey Road zebra crossing?

“This is one of the most common questions asked by international guests. I always feel sorry for them when I tell them it is two and a half hours away on the train from Lime Street.”

Were the Beatles really that tall?

“I have been asked many times if the statue of the Beatles on the Pier Head are the actual height of the Beatles.

“I always tell them that they were/are not 10 feet tall, but Ringo Starr ’s nose is probably to scale!”

After reading the article, I finally understand the Lambanana thingies.
