Do you really think those girls all screamed because they thought Ringo was a brilliant drummer? Do you think they appreciated Paul's basslines, George's imitating Chet Atkins in his solos, or watched out for the chords John was playing? No, they were screaming because they thought the Beatles were cute. Or at least the vast majority were, I'm willing to bet. Which is why ...

The music section contains books on music rather than CDs.

I do get a discount at the music store next door because it used to own the company, unfortunately that lapses in June because the bookshop was purchased by a Russian bloke.

There is a difference in being marketed and being created from scratch which is how boybands are generally thought to be. Epstein had little influence in the music the beatles played, one occasion was the Decca audition set list and the songs they played were wrong (tho they were tracks they beatles would have played on stage + the bands playing was crummy). However apart from that Brian had little say in what the band played, with the four determined that their own compositions were the singles (at least in the UK). Generally the music boybands make is predetermined by the producer/manager ...

That kid looks like a Disney boy, whatever his merits are, I hope Cowell takes his responsibility

Upon reading ever so trustworthy wikipedia, it seems people usually think of boy bands as a highly commercial band consisting of pretty boys who all dance and sing. Ok, none of them really danced with the exception of MMT but... It's quite obvious that when they first surfaced big time, they were a very much "marketed" band, mostly because of Epstein, I suppose, wearing uniform suits and hairstyles and writing simple, catchy songs...

I work in a bookshop, and the idiot who runs the music section* keeps describing the Beatles as the first boy band and the first rock band. It makes me rage, because neither description is remotely accurate. In the usual sense of the word they aren't even a boy band. The Monkees maybe (especially at first), but even then, they had some creativity.

One of these people was in a boyband:

I have to disagree with you guys, I feel they are a "boy band" and an important bedrock in the development of that style, though not one which should be compared and contrasted with what we think of as a "boy band" today. I don't think, for instance, that they belong on that poll.

A boyband is generally accepted to be a male band who have been or were brought together by a recording company/manager for the basis of forming a band and being promoted to sell albums and a bucket load of merchandise (tho obviosuly every band noways has merchandise to sell to fans, the beatles being [one of the] first to have mass amounts of merchandise being flogged). I think the first true boyband is generally thought to be The Monkees but there may have been some ...

Well, technically they are a boy band. But I suppose the name has a very bad reputation. Or should we set about calling them a "manly band"? "Vote for the manliest band!" Why isn't as derogating to call women girls as it is to call men boys? Something just bothers me about that

The Beatles can use your votes in MTV's Battle of the Boy Bands

It's hard to believe that the Beatles would need anyone's help in any kind of contest. But at the moment, they're running neck and neck with New Kids on the Block in the second round of voting in MTV's Battle of the Boy Bands. Also competing in the second round besides the Beatles and New Kids are the Wanted, the Monkees, Big Time Ruth, Boyz II Men, the ...
