Actually, that entire song is in reference to the music scene, including Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, The Stones, Bob Dylan, etc etc. There's a lot of speculation to some of the metaphors, but the Beatles ones include the one you mentioned, and they also include "Now at half time there was sweet perfume as the Sargeants played a marching tune"  which talks about the awesomeness of Sgt. Epic Band Pink Floyd did really made a reference to Their Awesomeness The Beatles in "Let There Be More Light" from their second album (the first that count in my book) "A Saucerful of Secrets":

I flipped. It was awesome! This may be off topic, but when I wake up in the morning I turn on my tv. This day, it was showing a little kid show and they went to England. They were singing a song about England, and they said:

"We love walking across Abbey Road."

I looked and the characters were walking across Abbey Road like the Beatles! It is cool they are putting refrences in little kid shows!

I dunno if this counts, but some parts of "history" by The Verve sounds like Mind Games.
