Two words: Tame Impala.

Oh, and another thing - I haven't listened to much Oasis but it seems like quite a few people on this site - and outside of it - think they copied the Beatles. Can someone explain how? (I'm not saying this maliciously, I'm genuinely interested)

Those two words are the tip-off I needed to merge the three threads we had going on this topic. Emily had already combined two of them or I would have had 4 to merge. See the first post in this thread for details.

I'm putting together compilation of Beatles-inspired tracks. After some internet research, I've found a ton of great songs that clearly show a Beatles influence, but I noticed I've only found a few tracks by female artists. I know they're out there, does anyone have any leads? I'm looking for songs by female artists or bands - or just songs with female vocalists - that are clearly Beatles-influenced. Any help would be much appreciated!

I don't know if shichimi is ever going to show up here again after his one-and-only post there a few weeks ago, but "Strawberry Road" and several other tracks on Sam Phillips' "Martinis & Bikinis" (from 1994: my ABSOLUTE favourite album of the 1990s!) have a conscious, deliberate Beatley feel to them (plus she covers "Gimme Some Truth" to close the album)

I just want to play. I’d like to think I could work opposite Sinatra, B.B. King, the Beatles, or a polka band... - Jazz musician Rahsaan Roland Kirk, 1967

There is me again. Sorry, coming off like an Oasis freak now I think, but really, if it was another band I would've replied as well.

At first I was asking myself the same question, and really, their songs don't sound like the Beatles, well, most of them.

BUT.

Just go here and scroll down till you see Oasis:

I say that nobody has been able to replicate the Beatles, and really, they shouldn't try.

By hook or by crook, I'll be last in this book.

A nod in 1969 to the Walrus -- from Chicago's first album (whose cover was a painted logo on a wooden sign), "South California Purples".

No. Chicago does not sound like "Eggman".

I've become somewhat obsessed by AM by Arctic Monkeys recently. Most of the album is fairly rifftastic rock, but this is like a cross between Lady Stardust and The Beatles:

No. I don't think so. I've always hated the Artic Monkeys, and they don't sound like the Beatles at all. End of story.

OK, Plastic Ono Band then. There are definite traces of Isolation in there.

The only thing the Beatles and the Plastic Ono Band have in common is they both had John Lennon in them. Other than that, no.yoko-ono_01

Though I know the Beatles have always been one of their inspirations, I don't really hear it in this song.

Love that song btw. Great band too, they kick ass live. Not too keen on Alex' new image though. The hip swinging thing doesn't seem to suit him and that quiff is a joke.

Been reading back in this thread, didn't realize I used to hate Oasis that much. Lol. Something's definitely changed.

And Ringo and George (and Billy Preston, Eric Clapton, Phil Spector and Klaus Voormann). And their first single was credited to Lennon-McCartney (not that Paul contributed anything, but it's still some common ground between the two acts).

Never mind. Since this thread is going off-topic, here's Arctic Monkeys doing Come Together:

Here come old flat top he come grooving up slowly! If you ask me the Aerodsmith version sounds better than the Artic Monkeys version (just saying!)

I watched, well fast forwarded thru the Opening Ceremony so as to skip the drivel (greatest ever etc etc repeat till its true) and i dont remember the Arctic Monkeys covering Come Together. Its good but the drummer is doing too much - sometimes less is more.

Yeah I don't like drummers being excessive on simple songs. Richard Starkey is anything but excessive! P.S. @meanmistermustard is not a mean old man like John says. He's actually a very nice person and a very cool person! a-hard-days-night-john-6a-hard-days-night-john-6a-hard-days-night-john-6a-hard-days-night-john-6a-hard-days-night-john-6apple01apple01apple01apple01apple01
