isn't there a promo film (that's what they were called back in the day) for Love Me Do? There's a film of them lip synching the actual single - so it's not a live performance that was filmed - it was a specially filmed lip synch of the song to be used for promotional purposes - thus making it a promo film.

Anyone remember that one of Love Me Do?

As for BOTR i would agree it would be strange for Paul to put together a music video packed with beatles images however the reissues are calling it the original promo, suppose it could mean from later. Maybe it was put together for the '76 world tour when Paul started revisiting the beatles work, tho Paul did go back to Yesterday, Michelle and Blackbird for the 1973 ...

A film clip created specifically around the release of a work of music would be considered promotional.

Using a previously created bit of film for a new musical release could also be considered a promotional work if you stretch the definition a bit.

Using those definitions, the film clips (pre-video) of the Beatles on horseback in the country side could be considered promotional film for Penny Lane/Strawberry Fields. Of course, in the absence of MTV or any MTV-like TV channel, precious few people ever saw those clips at the time of their release, ...

VH1 used the Eleanor Rigby scene from Yellow Submarine in 1999 when YS was reissued. Ive never given it much thought. They also used the Ticket To Ride scene from Help!, i think when the red and blue albums were reissued on cd in 1993, it was certainly shown on VH1 as i was amazed to see a Beatle promo of any kind.

Paul was putting out so called music videos before Band On The Run. Maybe Im Amazed had a promo video + there are videos for Heart of The Country & 3 Legs. Admittedly these were more home movies and pictures of Paul, Linda and their kids put together to the music but would still be viewed as a music video.

According to reports when Band On The Run was reissued it included the original promo videos of the title song, Mamunia and Helen Wheels. That BOTR promo is the one with the Beatles clips.

There were music videos of sorts in 1973, ITSWD: the Beatles and some other artists made those promotional films to accompany their new singles, the most famous example probably being Dylan's "Subterranean Homesick Blues" video where he holds up those placards that accompany the lyrics.

The caption reads "original video"

Not sure either what "original" means here.

Certainly not "original" as in the sense of "dating back to when the song was released" - there were no videos then.

Perhaps "original" as in "clever, unique"

In any case, much of the video (especially the beginning) is taken from the Yellow Submarine movie.

I've never heard of any connection between "Band on the Run" and the Beatles. McCartney's band certainly was on the run in Nigeria.
