I have just been browsing the Day In The Life of The Beatles book by Don McCullin and there are some great photos there, which got me wondering, what do you consider the best period for photos of the group?

For me the photos included with the White Album have always been my favourites, and the photos in the book were taken at this time; they are well past the mop tops and the Sgt. Pepper phase – they look mature – but not yet the long haired drugged out ‘hippy’ look from 1969 onwards.

Oh, and the female side of this forum who drool over Paul need to get this book – he has really got the cute puppy expressions on overdrive.

Ahhh Girl, those photos are from Mad Day Out, so if you like those photos, you definitely need to get the book.

Anything from ’67 post pornstache to ’69 pre- dirty hippy phase works for me.

Check out my fan video for Paul's song "Appreciate" at Vimeo or YouTube.

Hmm – I’m not sure about waterproof, but my printing is very high quality paper, and it can be got for less than $10 at most places.  Check this out:

It also has one of the photos taken through the fence at St. Pancras, which are some of my favourite Beatles photos, like the one from the Blue Album booklet and this one:

OH GOD I have this book.  Paul…  stripping… the chains…  I can’t.  paul-mccartney

Ahh Girl, you need to buy this book.

"Please don't bring your banjo back, I know where it's been..  I wasn't hardly gone a day, when it became the scene..  Banjos!  Banjos!  All the time, I can't forget that tune..  and if I ever see another banjo, I'm going out and buy a big balloon!"

Sort of depends, for me some of them looked better in a certain year than others and the other way around. I think they all looked pretty good in ’65 though. At the end of ’68 they started to look worse for me.

I’m a Beatles For Sale -> Revolver period lover. They all looked awesome, self-assured, cool and the rest. The four headed monster.

Rubber Soul is my favourite cover but BFS is very close behind.

George’s hair really bothers me on that one and John’s hair looks kind of weird too. John and Paul also look really tired, which they probably were. I think that’s my favourite period as well though.

I agree.  As a whole, I would say ’64.

Individually, I would say Ringo again in ’64:

George in ’68:

John in ’65:

Ugh…  heart

And of course Paul…  it’s definitely ’67

We can talk about them like they are fine wines. I’ll have a glass of ’64 Ringo, please.

sky999 had written that the pages of that book should be made of rubber or plastic.

My response was:

I had been thinking about saying that the pages needed to be like those books you give toddlers to chew on when the are teething. Just like you say, sky, rubber or plastic.

Site was slowly imploding after moving to a new server so there was a rollback of 3 days back to the last safe point before the server switch. All posts and PM’s were thought lost until it turned out that some had been saved by a few of the regulars (Parlance and Ahh Girl to name two).

And the fun mja/trcanberra conversation about mja’s “reason” for joining the forum.

Yes, pity mja saved that – I was all ready to go off on a hyperbolic tangent about my recollections of what he actually (didn’t) say :)

Back on topic, have you managed to track down some of the pics from the book AG?  A lot of them, and others from the day, are on the net.

Every time I start looking at pictures of the perfectly pretty, photogenic Mr. Paul McCartney , an hour of my life is gone. It only feels like a minute. I can’t peel my eyes off the screen to the point where they get tired and dry. My brain tries to tell my eyes to look away, but to no avail. Hours of endless pleasure and fascination a-hard-days-night-paul-7. I have to be very careful to only Google the man when I know I have time to while away the hours.

EDIT: Yes, I have seen a lot of those pictures on the net.

As with mja and his library ‘habits and fetish’ we really don’t need to hear about how you “while away the hours” with images of Paul, AG. Some of us here are very innocent minded.  One revelation a day is way more than enougha-hard-days-night-paul-7a-hard-days-night-ringo-6
