When I first bought it at a used CD store, I was disappointed. I don't know what I was expecting, but did not find it up to the high Macca standards I was used to. Then, a few folks on this site encouraged me to stay with it. After a few more listens, I grew to enjoy the album. I still do not count it among my favorites, but I do enjoy it...'Dance Tonight' included.

I have always hated Dance Tonight, when i saw Paul live in Glasgow that was the song where i went to stretch my legs and buy a programme. From its irritating intro to the whistling that makes me shrivel up like when someone scratches a blackboard with their nails, i find it cringeworthy.
Cannot for the life of me see (or hear) anything that redeems it.

On Paul's mandolin technique on "Dance Tonight" -- it's not so much the chords that are difficult, or the chord changes -- it's the seamless way Paul transitions from one chord to the next without any seeming space of pause.

I saw someone on this forum somewhere (can't remember where) say that "Dance Tonight" was "embarrassingly bad" or something like that. To me, it's a brilliant song -- a lightning bolt from one of the Muses right to Paul's head and into his fingers.

Hey, I play mandolin too!

My favorite Beatles tune to play is Norwegian Wood, it's in D.

Let me know, if you're interested I'll list the chords. It's fairly easy.

Thanks for the input everyone. Great suggestions. I DO play guitar (a strat, an ovation and a gretch being my go tos) and a little uke (just started) but this mandolin thing? HARD. I think my fingers are to fat! LOL

I think songs that work well on the uke would probably work on the mandolin too (though I've never played one). So, Honey Pie, Girl, Michelle, Ain't She Sweet. Also Dance Tonight and Ram On by McCartney.

"Ob La Di Ob La Da" or "And Your Bird Can Sing" would lend themselves nicely to mandolin, I think, not to mention more obviously strummed ukulele-rhythmed numbers like "Michelle" or "Girl". (The REAL challenge would be something like "Helter Skelter" or "She's So Heavy"!)
