I mean, Lennon probably was an inspiration to Bono, and yes, Bono was probably reassured that since Lennon did speak out, he could, but Bono is both more restrained and more out there. And I'll show you with a story. In 2004 (or 2005. I can't remember, but I remember the PM in question was only in power two years), Bono said he'd "kick Paul Martin {sitting Canadian Prime Minister at the time}'s ass" for not pledging 1% of GDP to AIDS prevention, or something to that effect. Read a quote somewhere where Yoko called Bono John's other son. I'm a huge U2 fan but I'm not sold. I can see it in some of the early lyrics. I see it in the social activism. But would John have had a sit down with the pope or Jesse Helms? Is that sort of thing just the best way to do get things done now and is a natural extension of laying in bed? Curious what folks think.
