I just mentioned how I’m getting a friend into the Beatles on the Impossible To Derail thread and found AG’s similar topic about Paul. Couldn’t find one for The Beatles, but if there is, mods please remove this!

So post away about your Beatles sharing attempts/successes!

If I spoke prose you'd all find out, I don't know what I talk about.

Last Friday, I was at a friend’s house (we carpool from school), and we were playing songs for each other on his speakers (plugging the speaker cord into our phones and picking things, switching every two songs or so), because we have somewhat different musical tastes, both liking some things, others not so much. Before then, there were some Beatles songs he knew and liked, a few of which were Helter Skelter , Back In The USSR , and Drive My Car . Well, then I played through all of Revolver , EXCEPT Yellow Submarine and Eleanor Rigby , which he knew already. It turns out he at least liked everything on the album, which he said was pretty rare, liking all the songs on a studio album. His three favorites were Taxman , She Said She Said , and Tomorrow Never Knows (much to my surprise – I expected him to hate that last one like I used to. He called it “weird – in a good way.”) I got a ways into Rubber Soul as well, and he at least liked everything except Michelle , which was the first thing the whole day I skipped besides YS and ER. If we do this again, I’m thinking I’ll try for Abbey Road

I played a slowed down version of I Am The Walrus and my friends liked it (Thought it didn’t get them into the Beatles)

I made a thread like it here.

Edit: Revolver was a good choice! You’ve got cool friends, especially if they liked TNK immediately.

Abbey Road ‘s probably a good one to play next.

Ahhh! Thanks for that, @Mr. Kite.

I should have done a more thorough search. I just searched “friends” under topic titles. :P

It’s hard to find anything on the forum. I use Google to search it.

No worries, B-dog. I’m a klutz when it comes to moving threads. I’ve asked @Ahhh Girl to lend a helping hand.

Move. Check.

I’ll take the opportunity to plug the “thread search thread”.

@Bulldog, I’m sure The Beatles are glad to have you as one of their ambassadors.

EDIT: just remember to look in the Forum Rules and Help Guides section of the forum.

Thanks @Ahhh Girl . Commissioner Gordon has a Bat Signal. Big flippin’ deal. I have an Ahhh Girl signal. Yay me.

Great post @Bulldog . You and @Mr. Kite share a great idea for a discussion.

At my age, most of my friends are set in their musical ways. To try and convert them would either be redundant or futile. So that leaves only the option to expand the Fabnicity of my friends who already enjoy the Beatles. I so enjoy that. Especially when it comes to the two people I love the most. My wife and my brother. They are both Beatles fans, but not to the extent of yours truly. When I am able to play a track for them they are not familiar with – early takes, live versions, etc… – and I see that look of discovery in their eyes… What a wonderful thing.

I totally get the feeling you must have felt B-dog, when your friend got into Revolver . Well played. Can’t wait to hear how it goes with Abbey Road

I gave my mate’s daughter who’s 9 the Yellow Submarine video for her birthday…….She had it played constantly on the way to school in the car and back home again. Then I gave her a video disc of all their singles…….She’s hooked.

She might be the only 9 year old in Thailand that is hooked onto The Beatles. I meet many people here who have never heard of them. But to me, my friend’s daughter’s enthusiasm shows me that the music still has the magic and given any exposure at all it will work it’s magic anywhere and anytime.

Are there people who do not like She Said She Said and Tomorrow Never Knows ? Absolutely great songs.

My tactic to introduce Beatles to others is just blast them constantly. They’re so catchy something will hang on to your ear.

I didn’t think he’d like TNK because he doesn’t like Strawberry Fields, Lucy In…, or I think I Am The Walrus . Basically, he doesn’t seem to like psychedelic songs. @Zig, I’ll be sure to keep you posted, but who knows if I’ll ever get the chance again? (Although my friend does know Something and Here Comes The Sun – I THINK he likes them.)

Update on the friend I referred to in the first post of this topic:

I got a text yesterday asking “How do you feel about George Harrison ?”
Does he not know me?! ahdn_paul_02
I obviously said George was amazing and asked why to which he replied a solo George song came up on Pandora. He didn’t know which and with my amazing deductive skills and one question I inferred it was What Is Life .

He loved it!

Giving him ripped copies of Red and Blue obviously paid off if he’s discovering solo work on his own. And today he told me he fell asleep last night listening to The Beatles.

New Beatlemaniac on the way? Possibly.

Celebration!
It’s about time:

I knew that was going to be asked!

I don’t know. He knows about the forum, but I don’t know if he’d join. He’s definitely not a big enough fan yet, though.

We’ll see, won’t we?

I’d say we have given @HongKongLady a wonderful introduction to the Beatles — in the form of @trcanberra :-)

The young lady in HK has certainly taken to the song titles :)

And she was listening to Paul the other day! It turns out one of her best friends has a thing for him – watch out @Ahhh Girl  – more competition!
