That would have been my second choice, but only if I could have been there as a 17 year old. A 48 year old man hanging around that stage would have been...well...creepy.

Some sources say that the Quarrymen performed on the back of a lorry on the way to the the fete and some don't (I've been to St Peter's Church myself, and I can't see how a lorry would get there, it certainly wouldn't get into the churchyard)

what were the Quarrymen like when they performed?

That's what I want to know. People have said (I'm pretty sure John himself being one of those people, and Paul another) that they weren't very good that day. John was drunk and didn't know the song lyrics so he just made them up as he went along.

I'd like to have seen that.

Those Band of Gypsys New Years Eve/Day concerts are just fantastic - I'd be happy for a box set documenting all 4 shows in full! No, the "disastrous" show i was referring to was the Winter Festival for Peace or whatever it was called - from January 28 in MSG, when Hendrix was sick or bum-tripping and had to leave the stage after two songs.

(Big Jimi fan, obviously, and would happily talk more about him; but, you know, gotta stay on topic!)

Obviously i'd need to be surrounded by a couple of large bodyguards so i didnt get beaten up by the drunkards in the audience tho.
