OfflineThis may be old news, but I couldn't find a thread about it…
Back in June, Giles Martin told the press that he was involved in (his words) a "secret Beatles project".
Whatever could it be…?
I've read the online speculation, and most of it seems pretty implausible. 'Let It Be' ain't happening, folks. In fact, scratch anything 'Get Back' related. Ditto for "Carnival Of Light" or other unbootlegged tracks of that era. And a collection of acoustic 'White Album' cuts would be nice, but the bootleggers have covered it already.
My guess is that Giles is prepping something fairly banal, like extra features for the Blu-Ray of 'Help' or (even better) a nice new Blu-Ray edition of 'Anthology'.
My own personal best-case scenario would be that there will finally be a proper video collection released. For a band that essentially invented the music video, they have yet to be served with a good video comp.
What do you cats think?

OfflineGiles worked on the 'Love' comp, so it's not too much of a stretch to suggest that he could work on a video comp.
The bootleggers have already done it to death, but it seems pretty plausible that Giles could have been taped to create an official selection of videos, using both the original promotional films as well as random footage.
I'd want to see this even before an 'Anthology' Blu-Ray.

OfflineIt wouldnt surprise me if it was something we would never think of. Did anyone foresee Love or Rock Band ever occuring?
Regarding the videos can we please get the originals and not go down the Lennon Legend route of new videos replacing the old. And put them all out even if its a special deluxe edition, i know that means multiple videos for songs but i dont care. I will happily, happily pay for it.

OfflineAs much as I like the studio banter, that stuff is strictly for the bootleggers. A CD of the Beatles talking between takes isn't plausible.
Audio formats like SACD are dead as well ( I don't mean to crap on anyone here. Especially a new guy! Welcome!).
Realistically, we're looking at a project which requires the touch of the son of the great George Martin. I just don't see it as funky obscurities like 'Carnival Of Light'. Whatever will be made will be made to make money and appeal to the masses, not to cater to hardcore fans.
I say whatever it is will be in relation to a video project.

OfflineMy prediction (based on absolutely no evidence)? A double album of live songs, stemming from the early Hamburg shows to all the way up to The Roof. I mean, the inventory's there; and there is no Beatles live album in print right now.

OfflineThere are rumours flying about that the vinyl albums remastered will be out at Christmas, tho this isnt the first these have been mentioned and nothing came of them.
Would be surprised at any official release of the Hamburg tapes as the sound quality is average, even in the LITMW documentary and that was the best so far. Anyway give us a complete live show not some compilation of random tracks, if a live collection then Washington, Shea & the Rooftop would make the most sense - tho thats all out there anyway. Maybe Apple have some unreleased shows in their archives for those who dont have them already, possibly a UK show from '63, i think a Bournemouth show is known to exist and hasnt bootlegged yet.

OfflineThe only issue with any live album is that the 40-50 years later these live performances are very short don't sound that great (even when cleaned up with modern technology).
I like the idea of vinyl reissues. It is sort of weird that the only proper catalogue album in print is 'Abbey Road'.
I'm still leaning towards a batch of new special features for the 'Anthology' blu-ray or (more plausibly) 'Help'.

OfflineI have no interest in blu-ray but then i think the last new dvd i bought was a hard days night when it was remastered. Paid £15 for that and now you can get it new for less than a fiver.
As for 5.1 or SACD do we really need another reissue of the studio albums? I get the vinyls as there are collectors but more cds with better sound quality? No thanks. Give us something exciting to get us worked up about so we install a countdown timer to the day of release. Not had that for a long time – i wasnt one who caught up in the media generated hype surrounding 9/9/09 and the remasters or itunes; it was a great release but for me it lacked the excitement of The Anthologys or Live At The BBC.
