I really enjoy speculation about albums-that-could've-been, but when I look at people's contributions to this thread (and the previous one that covered similar territory), I find the results oddly unsatisatisfying, personally. And it occurs to me that it's because All Things Must Pass and Plastic Ono Band are both such strong, unified statements that I'd hate to boil either one down to a mere seven tracks - or even as few as three, in George's case. And even Paul's album has its own character, despite being the weaker of the three.

It would definitely be nice to have "Instant ...

Interesting, your indulgence into 1971 as well... I tried to resist that urge.

There is a similar thread to this one buried somewhere in the archives of the Forum. In that one, we had to go to 1973 to find a passable Ringo song to go on the album.

I agree with the ideas that have been posted above but I posit that Instant Karma would also have been a prime choice for the record. Either that, or released as an accompanying single: a double A-side with Maybe I'm Amazed. Highly unlikely but would have been incredible.

EDIT: just noticed that Into the Sky had it on his album, my ability to read has failed me.

Back in my record store days, me and a friend did up a few tapes to make this type of album exist. It's a very cathartic experience, if you felt that everything ended just a bit too soon.

I think it's a fun topic.

I suspect that more than one of us has wondered about this. I run through this exercise towards the end of "Into the Sky ...":

Side 1:

Maybe I'm Amazed, Imagine, My Sweet Lord, Every Night, Jealous Guy, Junk

Side 2

All Things Must Pass, Give Me Some Truth, You're Sixteen, Uncle Albert/Hands Across the Water, Another Day, Instant Karma

The album would have been called Everest, a summit of sorts - a title in contention for Abbey Road.

Might have been their finest album....

Imagine for a second that the Beatles made one last shot after Abbey Road. Using the first solo albums and non-album singles, what might it look like?

Here's the conceit: Paul was prolific as usual, with 7 songs. John's interest in the group was waning, so he contributes 5. George wasn't interested unless he could contribute 3. Ringo gets his 1.

Anything that was released while the group was still together counts, as well as anything that was rehearsed during the Get Back sessions and anything on the first solo albums.

As a first shot, here's my version:

Side One

Cold Turkey

Every Night

Maybe I'm Amazed

Look ...
