A more recent memory just popped into my mind: Not too long before I started listening to The Beatles, I liked Regina Spektor's music. She covered Real Love, and I liked the song, but I thought it was hers. Then, not too long after I started listening to The Beatles, I looked up Real Love on YouTube and one of the videos was Real Love by The Beatles. I was confused at first, but then it dawned on me that Regina Spektor had covered the song.

Someone explained the Paul is dead rumor to me, and it was around the same time I heard about people spraypainting "Frodo lives!" on subway stations and walls. I somehow decided the two were related. I also came away with the impression that people in the 60s were passionate about weird things and had a lot of time on their hands.

I also remember that the CD (yes, it's a CD) was broken because my mom dropped it, but the only songs that wouldn't work were Back in the USSR and Dear Prudence. I often asked my mom why she couldn't go get the CD fixed. It didn't even occur to me to get a new one... but I wouldn't like that now, even though it's broken. I'd rather have an old, broken CD than a ...

This was based on nothing but the fact that I owned singles of both "She Loves You" and "Surfin' USA", which were both on the orange-yellow Capitol label, and both bands had "Bea..." in their names. (This was more than a decade before I read about the real-life friendly rivalry between both bands, you understand...)

Haha.

I used to get John Lennon and Elton John confused too when I was younger. And for some reason I thought everything was sung by Paul. Later I learned John had songs too. Then I thought John and Paul sang everything. Never knew about George until a few years ago. Or Ringo. I knew neither Paul nor John sang YS, but for some reason I never thought there were 2 others who could've sung it.

At that point, we were all totally hopped up on Motley Crue's 'Shout At The Devil' and had no time for his Beatles nonsense. So to prove his point, he played us "Helter Skelter" (which as you may know was covered by the Crue on that very same album). We were mildly impressed. He may not have converted any of us, but we certainly sang "WALHFMF" with a bit more ...
