OfflineLennon Closet – why is the fact that their favourite song also well known bad? My favourite's While My Guitar Gently Weeps, and no one here will accuse me of not being hardcore.

I hate the Beatley moments when you see people at school with a Beatles shirt on and you say, "What's your favourite song?" and they say something like Hey Jude or Here Comes the Sun. Plenty of people like that are at my school…I don't try to get them to like the underrated but good songs because they have already insulted me.
You could say there's a good reason these songs have become well known + if the Beatle knowledge of the folks at your school isn't as complete as yours, I'm not sure why that's an insult!.
But yes, many of the lesser known songs stand up very well to the classics. That's part of what makes the Beatles THE BEATLES.

OfflineGreat moment a couple of minutes ago:
On YouTube, watching Jon Stewart get chased by Stephen Colbert through the Daily Show offices, you see a picture of – who else – John Lennon. Funny clip – John Oliver ftw.

OfflineITSWD – it is! Couldn't find it on a cursory glance at Lennon on Google Images.
Another moment – as I enter class today (happy cause I have a sub), my friend showed me a picture of John and George. Caption? "George, sorry. I'm Paul's"

OfflineI watched a classic Odd Couple episode last night in which the dialogue went something like this…
Felix: I'm going to be a better father to my kids by following the Beatles' advice and let them be.
*Felix then prevents his daughter from going to a Paul Williams concert because she has a high fever*
Oscar: What happened to let them be?
Felix: What do the Beatles know about raising kids?

OfflineI agree "Into The Sky With Diamonds", the Beatles would not have even BEEN the Beatles if they hadn't have had the lesser known songs as well as the classics. The particular thing that bothers me is that they say they LOVE the Beatles. Personally, I believe it is impossible to LOVE the Beatles unless you have really "studied up" on them. Love is as strong a word as hate, so I really do love the Beatles; their personalities, songs, everything! Those people who claim incorrectly that they love the Beatles only know about TWO of the 209 songs they recorded!

OfflineHow do you know that? How do you know for certain that those weren't merely the first song(s) they remember, and love them for their sentimental value? And, consider why Hey Jude and Here Comes the Sun are famous – they're F***ing great songs!! Again, my favourite song is While My Guitar Gently Weeps – both versions. Does that make me less of a hardcore Beatles fan? I think not. Don't judge – be happy that people are even TRYING the Beatles, instead of that drivel of pop crap. Don't make them think that they shouldn't give the rest a try. Please?

OfflineI think what LennonCloset tries to say is that there are many people who claim they *love* the Beatles when they only know 2 songs. But I get your point SunKing. My sister loves the Beatles but she doesn't know all the songs. But they were the band from their childhood. I think there are different types of fans, the ones who know all the songs could be the "hardcore" ones… like me.

OnlineAren't the Beatles pop? And besides, who cares if those people are not really as hardcore as they think they are. I say I love Nirvana even though I'm really just a Nirvana hipster; I really only like Nevermind and a couple other songs. My brother always makes fun of me by calling me a Beatles hipster because my favorite songs are mostly mad popular ones, but I would consider myself a pretty hardcore fan.
A Beatley moment I had done right an had recently would be I was in the car and then llike my grandma was all like listeng to a song and then I was like "Turn this off" and so she did and then it was a Beatles song which was not in actually one, but a George one. Then there were five more!

OfflineWhat makes you a hardcore Beatles fan is if you REALLY love them. It doesn't matter what your favorite song is. Because what if somebody has a sibling that's a fan so they need to listen to them everyday? Then they'd know all of their songs, but maybe they aren't a fan. But someone could have just heard two songs by them and then suddenly felt a connection with them, maybe they already loved The Beatles.

OfflineMy 2 sisters and 2 of my brothers know all the beatles songs and the beatles are by far their favourite band/artist but they wouldnt consider themselves hardcore, just really big fans.
It does bug me when someone states Penny Lane is their favourite song and love the beatles but when you ask them what other songs they like they have no idea of any. And Imagine is not a beatle song – that trully pissed me off. Someone claimed they loved the beatles and then said Imagine was their favourite.![]()

OfflineI have a playlist in my iPod that contains about 600 of my favorite songs and I always play it in random. In that list there are 5 or 6 Buddy Holly songs.
So yesterday on my way home I hear "Think It Over". Whenever I hear this song, it always reminds me of the story that George and Paul tell in Anthology from when they entered the Star Search competiton and sang this song along with Holly's "Rave On".
As I'm still thinking of that story, "Rave On" plays as the very next track…from a list of 600 random songs.

OfflineJust watched an episode of Just A Minute and the topic was 'The Fifth Beatle'. Shappi Khorsandi's challenge of them not being genius's did not go down well with Nicolas Parsons (the chairman) or Paul Merton (one of the panelists who is a big fan).![]()

Until now I had never heard of Nicolas Parsons or Paul Merton, but I like them already!
So earlier today I was listening to the same playlist I mentioned yesterday and heard "End Of The Line" by the Traveling Wilburys. I'm thinking about how much I miss George. Next track? "Isn't It A Pity".
I am now convinced the spirit of George is controlling my iPod – couldn't ask for a better co-pilot.![]()
