From the Guardian: Confessions of a council registrar: from Paul McCartney to Prince George

Sir Paul McCartney's wedding to Nancy Shevell stands out for me as perhaps the most touching and memorable of all of the ceremonies I have conducted.

It found it very moving that Sir Paul came back to Westminster, to the Old Marylebone Town Hall, where he began his happy marriage to Linda Eastman in 1969.

From The Examiner:

Ron Campbell, director of the Saturday morning “The Beatles” cartoon series that aired on ABC in the '60s and animator on the Beatles film “Yellow Submarine” will appear in San Francisco this month, it was announced July 1 by S.F. station KGO-AM Radio, which is sponsoring his appearance.

Campbell will appear at Antiquities of California at Pier 39 in San Francisco at the KGO 810 Beatles Cartoon Art Show commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Beatles invasion of America. A VIP reception will be held for KGO listeners at the Hard Rock Cafe at Pier 39 July 11. Campbell will offer original cartoon paintings of the Beatles both from the ABC cartoon series and from “Yellow Submarine” for sale.

* Ringo birthday linksExaminer article on Ringo's birthday celebration, my report from there, and the page from the David Lynch foundation site on the peacerocks campaign.

* Paul's newest video, for "Early Days" is up at YouTube. Here's the Rolling Stone article on it.

* In case you didn't see it, meanmistermustard posted the Examiner link on Paul's first show since his illness, in Albany (beware spoilers).

* Since at least one of our regular posters is in Japan (@cra), you might be interested in this about an insert in the Japan Box, from Beatles Blog:

“The text reads that you can enter a draw to win a special, one-song promo CD (not for sale) of “I Want To Hold Your Hand” – complete with the original Japanese 7-inch cover reproduced for the CD sleeve. The deadline is postmarked 9 July (in Japan) though….”

Sadly, the CD Japan site also says that this special offer/application postcard is valid only for purchases in Japan….

So, it looks like only a few lucky Japanese Beatle fans will be getting what undoubtably will become a collectors item to add to their Japan Box box sets.

* Ringo helped launch a new exhibit in Verona, NY:

Central New Yorkers no longer need to go all the way to Hollywood's famous Chinese Theatre to see their favorite celebrities' handprints.

The Turning Stone Resort & Casino launched its new Hands of Fame exhibit on Monday, which will memorialize musicians and other performers who come to the Verona, N.Y. entertainment venue. And the first handprint on display is none other than one of the Beatles.

* From Broadway World:

Epstein: The Man Who Made The Beatles – the long-awaited play about the legendary music manager Brian Epstein – officially opens at London's Leicester Square Theatre in a 'Fab Four' weeks on Mon 4th August (previews from Wed 30 July) and will continue throughout the summer until Sat 6 September.

* A new Beatles photo exhibit:

An exhibition of photography by war hero Terence Spencer is coming to the new Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery this summer, opening on 19th July.

[*snip*]

Run by Shropshire Council, the new Shrewsbury Museum and Art Gallery opened in April 2014 as the result of a major restoration project on the town's old Music Hall, where The Beatles performed on two separate occasions in 1962/3. The 'Living Dangerously' collection of photographs, which takes its name from Terry and his wife Lesley's joint autobiography, will be housed in the Special Exhibitions Gallery overlooking The Square and Old Market Hall.

The exhibition 'Living Dangerously' will run 19 July ' 31 August. Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery is open 10am ' 5pm, seven days a week. Admission is £4.00 per adult and £2.00 per child, which includes entry to the Special Exhibitions Gallery. Concessions are available. For more information visit http://www.shrewsburymuseum.org.uk

* Some sad news: Ken Thorne, who wrote the score for Help! - for which he was nominated for a Grammy along with the Beatles - passed away yesterday.
