The Beatles 1964 concert at Washington Coliseum is going to be reenacted in February. The announcer on the 60’s on 6 mentioned it this morning. He said that he saw a big picture of the Beatles is on the side of the building as he was driving in to work this morning.

A bit from the article:

To mark the 50th anniversary of the show next year, the D.C. Preservation League and Douglas Development are plotting to reenact the concert at the same venue, now a covered parking lot referred to as the Uline Arena, as one major send-off before the historic location is developed into offices and retail. The show, set for Feb. 11, will feature a cover band, Beatlemania Now, performing the same set list the Beatles did during that 35-minute show. They’ll even start at 8:31 p.m., just as the Beatles did.

The concert, a fundraiser for the preservation league, also will feature an exhibition of photographs by Mike Mitchell, an 18-year-old shutterbug from Oxon Hill who attended the D.C. concert and captured the scene in striking black and white, as well as food trucks and events outside of the venue.

Though the developer and the preservation league hope to re-create as much of the night as possible, the building’s current condition no longer allows for in-the-round seating, explained Rebecca Miller, executive director of the preservation league. The capacity of the Uline is now just 3,500.

Tickets for the show will go on sale Nov. 1 at http://www.beatlesyesterdayandtoday.com. Admission will be $45 for standing-room tickets; seated admission will be $100.

* Update on the Fifth Beatle movie From The Examiner:

Peyton Reed will direct “The Fifth Beatle,” the film adaptation of the recently released New York Times best-selling graphic novel chronicling the final years of The Beatles’ manager Brian Epstein, the production company announced Dec. 4. Reed’s past directing credits include the films “Bring It On,” “Yes Man,” “Down With Love” and “The Break-Up” and episodes of the TV series “The Goodwin Games” and “New Girl.”

More at the source. [x-posted at the Fifth Beatle movie thread]

* Also from The Examiner:

BEATLES MASS AT CATHEDRAL: Maybe it’s only natural that in Cleveland, the city that is home to the Rock ‘N’ Roll Hall of Fame, Trinity Episcopal Cathedral will pay tribute to John Lennon on Dec. 8 with a Beatles Mass at 9 a.m., reported the Cleveland Plain Dealer Dec. 4. The Mass will include the songs “Imagine ,” “All You Need Is Love ” and “Let It Be .”

All Paul news this morning:

* From Paul’s site: the vinyl edition of NEW will finally be out on the 9th for the UK and on the 17th for the US.

* The morning radio show I listened to mentioned that Paul hired Japan’s top Beatles tribute band, The Parrots, for Nancy’s birthday celebration, and I came across a Daily Mail article on it.

* Behind the scenes at Paul’s interview on Graham Norton’s show.

Not sure this is the right place to put this…sorry. I just read that Paul, who is in Tokyo, threw Nancy a surprise birthday party. He actually hired a Japanese Beatles cover band to perform for her. He got up with them to perform “I Saw Her Standing There .” I don’t know…isn’t that sorta’ like giving a lady a 3 carat cubic zirconia ring when she already has a 3 carat diamond? She is married to Paul McCartney …why would she need to watch a Japanese imposter of him? Don’t know if I think that is really cool or profoundly disturbing!

Surely its off-putting doing Beatle covers when Sir Paul McCartney is watching you?

Also leads to other questions in my mind about stand-in Pauls performing but will leave that alone.a-hard-days-night-paul-7

Paul McCartney: Something NEW, an unprecedented behind-the-scenes look into the creative life of the most successful artist in music history and the world’s greatest living songwriter, will air the special on Friday, December 13 at 9PM ET/PT on VH1 Classic.
Something NEW features incredible live and backstage footage shot around the world during his amazing run of shows in 2013 and documents the creation of McCartney’s recently-released album New.
And while searching to see if parlance had already posted this story, I ran across this piece of information from a BB post back in 2010

2. The Beatles signed with Brian Epsteinbrian-epstein in 1961, December 13.

So this show will air on the 52nd anniversary of that momentous event.

Uh, uh, uh…I’m hoping that question wasn’t for me. To be put on the spot with a question like that from one of the Beatles Brains (BB) on the BB forum is a rather daunting feeling. *hopes another BB on the BB jumps in quickly*

Something New was, as I’m sure mmm already knows, The Beatles’ 3rd Capitol album. Something NEW is the Don Letts documentary built around the Out There tour and the recording of Paul’s NEW album. For those who can’t wait until the 13th to see it, parlance posted the YouTube upload of it further up the page.

Oh, thanks. I haven’t had a chance to watch the video parlance posted. Didn’t realize it was the same thing. Thanks for putting all the puzzle pieces together for me.

Edit: I didn’t want to “cheat” and Google it for an answer. I did look it up since you posted the answer.

It was a play on the name of the show.

I’ll go get a new mic or some water.

Strangely i never liked the BB’s. Went once, never went back. Their hall stank of stuffy, staunchy, air.

Beatles news the Magical Mystery Tour EP was released on the 8th December 1967 46 years ago. Sadly i looked at the date at i saw what date it is and that brought to mind what else happened Beatle-related on the 8th December and so much shittier. Sigh.

^^ I’d like to see the mono set re-released on CD so I can get a real set from the local store and not some cheap pirated Chinese copy which is about all you can get from the net these days.  Even the local 2nd-hand store say they have had 2 of the pirated ones show up.
