^ The gnome sold for £29,000 (about $43901.65).

Some snips from the article

The album cover was the brainchild of artists Peter Blake and Jann Haworth and photographer Michael Cooper, who constructed and shot it it on March 30, 1967.

The album cover ended up being so extravagant that the final cost of producing the artwork was £3,000 – a whopping £50,000 in today’s money.

Following the shoot Mr Cooper’s photography assistant was given the 20-inch tall cardboard gnome as a souvenir by The Beatles, who each signed it.

Experts at Heritage Auctions in Dallas, Texas, had given the gnome a pre-sale estimate of $25,000 – around £17,000 – but it ended up going to an unnamed buyer for $42,500 – or £29,000.

Oh god the pun in that article “she’s leaving gnome”. I guess it sold more because the signatures were real this time?

Why is he selling everything? I understand clothes and stuff like that because you’ll never wear them again but he is selling A LOT of personal, once-in-a-lifetime stuff.

What really surprised me when I read the article is that he’s selling his copy of the White Album  numbered 1!!! That, I predict, could be about to become the most valuable record of all time, maybe a few acetates might retain a higher value.

He’s clearly having a big old life-laundry moment, and is offloading a lot of property and possessions that he no longer needs or wants. I hope he offered them in the first instance to Abbey Road Studios or the Beatles Story museum in Liverpool, because either of those places would have given them the care and attention they deserve. The alternative seems to be that all those Beatles treasures get dispersed around the world and end up in private collections, possibly never to be seen again.

(Of course I’m just jealous that I haven’t got the money to buy them all for my own personal private collection! a-hard-days-night-ringo-6)

Apple really should open an official Beatles museum. They must have so much stuff, whether in the private Lennon/McCartney/Harrison/Starr estates, or in their own archives. It’s crazy to keep it all locked away gathering dust.

The 1961 contract has sold for $93,750 to an anonymous buyer reports Examiner.

Other items from the Blaschke collection featured in the sale included an autographed first pressing of the Beatles’ first single “Love Me Do ”/“P.S. I Love You.” It also proved a big seller. It was estimated to sell for $10,000, but went for $25,000. A letter from Beatles manager Brian Epstein about a possible appearance by the Beatles in Hamburg, Germany sold for $5,562. A handwritten letter by Ringo Starr sent from Hamburg to his grandmother and signed “Richy” sold for $4,250.

Also in the sale was a scrapbook put together by a Liverpool Beatles fan that sold for $7,097. A photograph of the Beatles in Hamburg autographed by photographer Astrid Kirchherr brought $4,750.

For the serious collector/entrepreneur.

John Lennon’s childhood library up for auction

Woolton Library, once popular with John Lennon , is to go up for auction at the end of the month.

The building, which Lennon regularly visited during his childhood, was closed down in 2013 in a bid to cut costs.

Liverpool city council claimed that the cost of repairing the Grade II listed building would be too high and that it didn’t have adequate disabled access.

A campaign to save the library was launched, but ultimately could not halt the closure – despite a petition receiving more than 5,000 signatures.

Now, the council has made the decision to sell the building at auction, with a guide price of £150,000.

[snip]

The sale will be made on the condition that the building is only used for a public service such as a crèche, day nursery, education centre, museum or an art gallery.
