I realised a good while back that the Beatles music is part of my inner core, no matter how long i leave listening to it it never goes, always coming back to the surface when i find myself thinking of their songs and before long i have to play something to quench the desire. I love and listen to more artists than ever before but The Beatles are still miles ahead of them (and that includes their solo work). It would be foolish to conclude otherwise.

Yes, YES, YES!

I've got a post from 2010 on this page, and, even though my choices haven't really changed much, I wouldn't be so gutsy as to come up with a top-ten list these days.

EDIT: I do wish that I had fit The Beach Boys in somewhere on my old list, though.

I saw your post while searching for mine @Necko ! Nice list. There were a few I left off mine as well. Mostly old blues artists - don't get me started.

@Sugarplum fairy and @Funny Paper are correct in that a lot of us share common likes.

Musically….the songs, arrangements……..vocals. The Beatles

Tracking a groups evolution and musical progression. The Beatles

Emotionally……nostalgically…..  in the sense that much of my formative and later life has been wrapped in a single group's music. The Beatles.

So I guess I'm saying the Beatles,The Beatles…. The Beatles.

However, despite their number one and enduring status in my heart, I also recognise that very little of their music comes over to me as heartfelt.

And my response to the original question is what I would like carved on my tombstone as a last testament to my life in general:

"I'm not sure... maybe... but then..."

(Another tombstone idea I'd like to have is "Yes, But...")

Anyway, what I mean is that in some ways the Beatles do occupy a unique place in my heart musically; but in other ways I may never be able to quite exorcize the initial magic Santana bewitched me with when their first four albums came out in a span of two years.

The first time I heard Santana, I was at an outdoor party. Someone down the street was blaring this incredibly soulful and rhythmic music featuring amazing lead guitar work. I turned to my cousin and said "who is THAT?!?!" Bewitched is a perfect term, FP. I get it.

B*witched were, for a brief period of time, quite popular in the UK amassing 2 or 3 more top ten hits after 'C'est La Vie'. Here for your listening pleasure is their second single (i think) 'Rollercoaster'.

Actually looking at their wiki entry their first four songs all made #1. Ireland has a lot to apologise over.

I think Scotland gave up on boybands with The Bay City Rollers back in the 70's. We learnt our mistake then. Oh, wait we gave you the Proclaimers and the McDonald Brothers. I am very sorry about that.*

*There are probably many more out there that we have unleashed on a poor unsuspecting undeserving world but i cant think of them - which is probably a good thing.

You Raise Me Up isn't that bad! Westlife did have a few decent tunes.

I've got a lot of guilty pleasures.

Bay City Rollers! I got their "greatest hits" LP for a Xmas gift in '75 or '76 (didn't ask for it)

The Beatles were my favourite/most-listened-to band for so many years that I rarely have the need to listen to them these days, when there's so much more stuff out there. But I still throw on an album of theirs occasionally, just to reassure myself that the magic's still there for me.

@Linde, the concept of "guilty pleasures" doesn't exist for me - I like what I like, and believe that everything I like is therefore great! (Even if it's only one song or two by some otherwise worthless performer.) If you like a couple of Westlife songs, do like me and be proud of it! And say to yourself "I love the Beatles too, so I must know what's great!" :D

I just want to play. I’d like to think I could work opposite Sinatra, B.B. King, the Beatles, or a polka band... - Jazz musician Rahsaan Roland Kirk, 1967

I remember when I was a kid, I was so disappointed when I opened a record for xmas and discovered it was Elton Johns Greatest Hits instead of a Beatles album, I was hoping for.

Sure I grew to like Elton, but......a-hard-days-night-ringo-14

Zeppelin is still my 2nd Fav band to this day!!!!

No, I they're not my favourite band, I prefer the Quarrymen...

Of course The Beatles are my favourite band! If I wasn't so obsessed with them, I probably wouldn't be on this forum.

But after about half a year of only listening to The Beatles, I am finally starting to get into some other bands like Led Zeppelin, The Beach boys, etc. But The Beatles will always be my number 1.

Yeah, they are. They used to be the only band I really liked, now I've got a nice supporting cast (Green Day, Radiohead, Rush, etc.), but they're still number one, and likely always will be.
