There will be a female Doctor. The UK media will ensure there is one and the ratings and hype would be massive - it shouldnt matter but its the way it works now. I have a feeling there was one in one of the Comic Relief sketches

Fortunately the BBC is a publicly funded broadcaster so it doesn't have to care what the red tops think.

I think Joanna Lumley played the female version of the Doctor, and it was Steven Moffat's first bit of writing for Doctor Who (even though it was non-canon).

I didnt find it that good. It started off ok with the regeneration of the 7th Doctor (Sylvester McCoy) into the 8th (Paul McGann) but after that it got pretty dull as it went on. A pretty dull storyline i cared so little about ive forget the plotline.

Interested in the Doctor being male as everything writen now is how the next Doctor could be female, as said previously i dont know past the basics and bits of what ive read here, there and in certain places.

As for the complications or not maybe youre right, its possible i just didnt care and yes the latest series can be taken as independant stand alone episodes. The media are about to go doolally as the episode where Amy leaves is next Saturday, it is going to be incredibly over promoted and over hyped.

In canon, the Doctor is very definitely male. Some fans don't like the idea of the Doctor being sexual so in much of the fan fiction released between it being taken off air and coming back, it was stated that Time Lords reproduce asexually from looms.
