Hey, I'm new to the forums, but I have visited the site a bunch since January. So, I thought my first post should be on what would be on my single disc "The Beatles" album. I am a huge fan of Beatles, but I am a bit of a newbie, only starting to listen to them in September. I am also using songs that weren't on the White Album, but were released in 1968. So, here it goes.

Side One
1-Back In The U.S.S.R.

2-Dear Prudence

3-Martha My Dear

4-Blackbird

5-Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da

6-While My Guitar Gently Weeps

7-Hey Jude

Side Two
1- Helter Skelter

2- Lady Madonna

3- Piggies

4- Honey Pie

5- Mother Nature's Son

6- Julia

7- Good Night

^ Welcome aboard Irate.  Nice listing, it has me thinking even more that the White Album is really amazing since everyone has come up with such awesome variations for it.

@Annadog40 I'm not sure I like yours. It seems kind of... what's the word... horrible.

Why would you make such a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad album.

Blech. Gimme some bacon.

EDIT: Should've quoted.

That's my torture album. You get a good song to make you happy, then BAM here comes torture again.

All them songs are the best! If only and album could have 10 hours of Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da and Piggies

I actually am with George Martin on the one disc comment but it is very hard to whittle it down to 14 though.

1.Back In The USSR
2 Dear Prudence
3 Helter Skelter
4 Mother Nature's Son
5 I will
6 Rocky Racoon
7 Don't Pass Me By
8 Happiness Is A Warm Gun
9 Long, Long, Long
10 Birthday
11 Blackbird
12 Revolution 1
13 I'm so tired
14 While My Guitar Gently Weeps

I don't think I could fall within the parameters required. I'd want all 5 of George's songs on the lp, and none of the "solo" ( Julia, I Will" , etc. ) on it. My lp would probably have only 2 PM songs on it, mostly George and John, which we know never would have gone over. Still think George Martin was right about it being a single lp: frankly, there's too much weak or solo material on it. Just my opinion.

and though it breaks the rules;

side 1.                                         side 2.

1. Back In The USSR                    1. Revolution 1

2.Dear Prudence                         2.Savoy Truffle

3. Not Guilty                               3.Cry Baby Cry

4.I'm So Tired                             4.Mother Nature's Son

5.Glass Onion                              5. Piggies

6.While My Guitar Gently Weeps    6.Sexy Sadie

7.Happiness Is A Warm Gun          7. Long ,Long, Long

my dream White Album (going to include some of the outtakes that didn't make it)

Side One:

1. Revolution (Single Version - having it start with the 'A Beginning' sequence as an intro before it jumps into 'Revolution')

2. Honey Pie

3. Sour Milk Sea

4. Martha My Dear

5. Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except For Me and My Monkey

6. Dear Prudence

7. Revolution 9

Side Two:

8. Helter Skelter

9. Sexy Sadie

10. Not Guilty

11. What's The New Mary Jane

12. Rocky Raccoon

13. Revolution 1

14. Goodnight

I kind of like the idea of the album having been themed around the Revolutions, with 9 serving as an intermission and 1 being the "reprise"

@MrCleanMachine , welcome.

This would take some serious analysis, but you COULD be the first not to think that While My Guitar Gently Weeps  deserves to be included.

Why the *** would anyone want Revolution 9, Good Night & What's The New Mary Jane on an single LP is beyond me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Those are 3 throw away songs, that should have been thrown away! paul-mccartney  They could have shown up on Anthology, and I would have gladly skipped them.

I do agree that Revolution & Revolution 1 should have been included to open & close, perhaps side 2!

I'm one of those who believes the White Album is best as a double lp.  I like the way the tempo, rhythm, volume, and subject matter of the songs ebbs and flows.  But in trying to cut it down, I agree with @Bongo that those 3 songs would be near the top of the cut list (although Mother Nature's Son is quite a good song in its own right - but you have to listen closely).

Back In The USSR
Dear Prudence
Sour Milk Sea
Glass Onion
Long, Long, Long
Blackbird
While My Guitar Gently Weeps

Revolution 1
Why Don't We Do It In The Road?
Happiness Is A Warm Gun
Helter Skelter
Don't Pass Me By
Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except for Me and my Monkey
Julia

I know this is heavily sides 1-2 weighted, but I almost think the best solution would have been to release sides 1-2 as is as a single lp, then release Revolution 1 and Helter Skelter, with Warm Gun and Monkey as b-sides, as singles.  I really like my side 1, but side 2 was much more difficult.  As far as Don't Pass Me By, every Beatles album has a Ringo song, and they wouldn't have left him off this one.  But it was darn hard to fit in!  Not Guilty is a better song, and would have fit nicely in its place.  Julia is just one of my favorite songs and sets the mood to end it like Good Night did, only Julia is better than Good Night a-hard-days-night-george-10

Half of what I say is meaningless...

Now I'm only 52 and all I wanna do is bugaloo

thank you for the welcoming :)

as a George song, I don't think 'WMGGW' is all that great compared to his other works with the Beatles

'What's The New Mary Jane' should've been on the album IMO

It was quite easy to get rid of songs, but when I finished with that, I had 18 left. It was very hard to get rid the remaining songs. And I might just change my mind again tomorrow.

Side 1:

  1. Martha My Dear
  2. Happiness Is A Warm Gun
  3. While My Guitar Gently Weeps
  4. Blackbird
  5. I'm so tired
  6. Revolution 1
  7. I will

Side 2:

  1. Dear Prudence
  2. Don't Pass Me By
  3. Sexy Sadie
  4. Long, Long, Long
  5. Honey Pie
  6. Cry Baby Cry
  7. Julia

This is just a random order.

That thread was titled "White Album Trimmed".

I love the White Album just as it is, a 2 disc set... but if I had to, here is my single disc version, which I would use a few alt takes to get max benefit for your buck, and sorry, ringo, your tracks have to go...

Side one

1. "Back in the U.S.S.R."

2. "Dear Prudence"

3. "Glass Onion"

4. "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da"

5. "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" (Demo Version with extra verse)

6. "Blackbird"

7. "Savoy Truffle"

8. "Happiness Is A Warm Gun"

Side two

9. "Birthday"

10. "Yer Blues"

11. "Why Don't We Do It In The Road??"

12. "Julia"

13. "I Will"

14.  "Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except Me And My Monkey"

15. "Sexy Sadie"

16.  "Helter Skelter

17. "Revolution 1"  (Take 20 combining Revolution 1 & 9)

Cheers and welcome to the forum, @mountart.

@Annadog40 will be happy you kept Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da, but she may weep along with her guitar because Piggies isn't on your list.
