Hello!
I recently brought one of the first UK pressings of the white album. The vinyls are glorious, they come with the original inner sleeves, the overall condition isn't perfect but it's far from tatty and all the inserts are here. However, I noticed a difference between the photographs. John Lennon's postcard is made on thicker paper (I think the technical word for that is "card") and the rest of the photographs are on slightly-thinner paper. They all have the same gloss and the quality of the images are all the same, but I am concerned.
What type of paper were the photographs printed on in the 1st pressings? Is it possible that there were variations? Is John a 1st issue and the rest from a re-issue, or vice-versa?

On my (U.S.) album they're all on the same photographic paper.

Thanks for the response. Could you describe the paper used for me please? Is it card, or glossed on both sides, or…? Just assuming that the prints in America were the same here.
I tried looking up information on the prints all over the internet but no-one seems to have documented this.

jordyboothy, they look like large versions of a photo you'd have printed today: the paper is supple, the front is glossy, the back is matte.

Ahh, that sounds most similar to the copies I have of Paul, George and Ringo. Gee wiz fellas I don't know what to think. I'll just assume that John's texture was a glitch in the factories and be happy.

I think the first 4 went to John, Paul, George and Ringo tho in what order i have no idea. Probably buried deep in someones vault where in years away it will be auctioned off for a trillion dollars.
If anyone happens to come across it in a car boot sale i will cry.

Funny you should bring up the topic.
The number on the album cover actually plays a role in Into the Sky with Diamonds (I had to add a little levity).
It WOULD be interesting to know whether John Paul George and Ringo got 0000000001, 000000002 etc…

I'm sure there are other sources supporting that, but it's interesting that The Beatles Rock Band claimed Ringo has number 1. Wasn't there multiple number 1's anyway? A number 1 from each record factory! Ohhh myyy

I saw this at the Beatles Story museum in Liverpool, the only blue copy of The White Album, and the sleeve is signed by Paul. It looks awesome.

Imagine being able to run off your own copies. If that was me I'd have made a load of unique pressings (upside down, inside out, songs in the wrong order) and sold them to collectors for a fortune.
