Happy birthday takes 10 seconds to sing and is so simple a song for everyone to get and name-check. Birthday you have to get the drums out and see if Yoko is available for backing vocals. Seriously, i dont think its that widely adored and might seem a bit cringing, especially if the person doesnt like the Beatles. Also there is nothing attached to Happy Birthday, its a completely blank canvas.

Happy Birthday has the "insert name here" bit, which means it can be easily personalised. Birthday gets played on my birthday, it just doesn't get sung to me, though often sung along with by everybody in the room.

I'm not a fan. Probably has to do with a radio station I used to listen to that played a snipped of it every day they announced celebrity birthdays. That and I just don't think it's one of Paul's better songs.
