8trackgdesk - Sorry, I misread what you wrote the first time. Ok, so he's asking Cynthia not to wear red. Doesn't really answer why. I'm not convinced that it is a deliberate reference to his mother. I like the song, but I think it's one of his work songs with no deep meaning.
