Revolution 9 doesn’t count? Damn paul-mccartney

My least favorite orignal penned song: For You Blue

My least favorite cover song: Cayenne (if that counts if not Maggie Mae

And if you saw my love, I'll love her to.

In my opinion the dislike of Yellow Submarine comes from the idea that Revolver is this incredible album filled with mystical backward effects, tape loops and great lyrics and then you have a singalong kiddies songs with simple lyrics,  sound effects and Ringo on vocal. Totally out of proportion but then some arty farty types moan if a Beatles song dares to not have incredibly simple cosmic lyrics and the hi-hat slighty too high in the mix.a-hard-days-night-paul-11

Yeah I guess that’s the reason.

I’ve never cared about whether a song is deep enough for an album or ot. It’s a simple song and I think that’s it’s strength. It’s still one of the most well known Beatles songs. Nothing wrong with it.

I can’t really decide, there are songs I like better than others and ones that I like worse than others, but I can’t decide.

For me, there’s something to like about every Beatles song. However, there are some that I’m not totally in love with (doesn’t mean I hate them or think they’re crap!)

1) The Long And Winding Road

2) Blue Jay Way

3) The Continuing Story Of Bungalow Bill

I can honestly say I think that’s it. Wow, out of all those songs I only don’t like 3!

My list:

Love Me Do
From Me To You
Thank You Girl
When I Get Home
Tell Me Why
Matchbox
Wait
Honey Don’t
Dizzy Miss Lizzie
Being For The Benefit of Mr. Kite
Magical Mystery Tour
Blue Jay Way
Only A Northern Song
Across The Universe
Wild Honey Pie
Bungalow Bill
For You Blue
Dig It

These are the only Beatles songs that get on my nerves, although I wouldn’t go as far as to say I hate any of them (except for maybe Thank You Girl , Wild Honey Pie , and Bungalow Bill).

Cayenne is by McCartney I think? – so Maggie May it is then :)

Well personally I think Revolution 9 is fantastic…………..not kidding in the slightest

Mine are: “The Long And Winding Road ”
A Taste Of Honey ” (I prefer at chipmunk speed)
The Night Before
Another Girl
Little Child ” -creeper anthem; sometimes I love it hahaha
“P.S I Love You”
these days I skip “For No One “, it’s just such a drag
I used to loathe “Rocky Racoon” now I can handle it hahah that intro just pissed me off to no end

I know, it seems like a contradiction in terms, but although I love most of the music, I still have 1-5  Beatles songs that I just despise.

Other than Revolution 9 , I’d like to hear any that you guys think just would have been better off never happening.

My main one is Piggies . It’s not particularly strong musically, and it’s not catchy, but the lyrics are just nonsensical crap. I get it was supposed to be a commentary/metaphor or something, but it doesn’t work, and it is the ONLY Beatles song I ever skip. I’m not a huge fan of Maxwell’s Silver Hammer or Honey Pie , but there’s really only one I hate. Blot on everything, especially when you consider it could have been easily replaced with Not Guilty

Anyway, that’s enough for me, do you have any song that you just really don’t like?

Actually – no – not really.  There are just some performers I seem to have some sort of ‘cosmic connection’ to and I enjoy listening to everything they do, even if I’m not in love with some of it.  Some examples are Neil Young, Springsteen, Mike Oldfield, U2 and The Beatles.

I don’t think it means I am not discerning, there are a lot of artists I have more mixed feelings for even though I like them a lot; I just seem in tune with the half-dozen or so I really like.

Wow. Really The Beatles are the only band I only have 1 song I don’t like from. I really like U2, Oasis, and The Clash to name a few, but they all have some that just bore me. The Beatles are really just insanely good, huh?

Mr Moonlight .  It’s just….  ugh.  blue-meanie

"Please don't bring your banjo back, I know where it's been..  I wasn't hardly gone a day, when it became the scene..  Banjos!  Banjos!  All the time, I can't forget that tune..  and if I ever see another banjo, I'm going out and buy a big balloon!"

Maybe not – as I say – there are just a few bands / singers where I seem to ‘get’ whatever they attempted – though it may not be something I would choose to listen to every day (like, say, the 2nd side of Live Peace In Toronto :) ).

There is no musician or band I like 100% of — even the ones I’m an enthusiastic fan of.

James Taylor, for example, is one of my favorites of all time; but on his last album in 2003 (he’s had an entire decade not putting out new music), I only loved one song (“Whenever You’re Ready”), and only liked two beside that.

With the Beatles on every album from Rubber Soul forward, I tend to only dislike one, possibly two or three (Let It Be has the most, meaning about three).  The White Album only has one song I don’t care for, “Yer Blues “.  I like the Hard Day’s Night and Help ! albums, but only a few songs per.

Abbey Road is the only album that earns 100% of my love.

Piggies is great for my books. I love the harpsichord played in it which is what really hooked me on the song and the middle eight.

Anyways speaking of George’s later work, I could never get the good side of For You Blue . Other songs that I guess falls into the cant stand category are A Taste Of Honey , Things We Said Today , Mr. Moonlight, Rock And Roll Music , Everybody’s Trying To Be My Baby , Ive Just Seen a Face, Run For Your Life , Think For Yourself , Wait , Within You Without You , Wild Honey Pie and Revolution 9 . I still listen to them, but they have a rather cold side to me.

And if you saw my love, I'll love her to.

I agree with I’ve Just Seen A Face about ‘Piggies ‘……..I skip a few on the White Album . Apart from WMGGW I skip all of Georges other songs. I pass on ‘Don’t Pass Me By ‘ and ‘Rev 9’ I’m So Tired of ‘I’m So Tired ‘…….Yoko spoils ‘Bungalow Bill’ for me……I only listen to ‘Honey Pie ‘ for John’s solo. ‘Wild Honey Pie ‘ hasn’t even that. ‘Revolution ‘ suffers in comparison with the faster, screaming ‘B’ side.

……Having said all that, I wouldn’t be without one second of any of the songs I dislike. It’s the frigging Beatles. They won’t be anymore from them and like “Everybody’s Got something to Hide…….” which I didn’t much like…….recently my opinion’s changed and i can see how good and urgent it sounds.

Finally, and this may have me banned from the board I’m not a lover of “Yesterday ” I think Paul has written a couple of dozen ballads that are better.

I hope he knows that.

^ ha ha – I will join you in the ban when I say I’m not overly fond of Michelle :)

Oh, and My Love and Silly Love Songs would round out a trio of songs that come close to me not liking them.

I don’t like “Long Tall Sally ” and “Kansas City ” no matter who sings them.

I wish Maxwell’s Silver Hammer and Michelle could be erased from human memory/history.

I don’t like the theme of “Run For Your Life “, but I still listen to it.

I’ve been reminded of two more now. I just wrote the two off the top of my head but Michelle and Run For Your Life are also really horrible.

(Oh, and if the song is called Long, Long, Long , it might be a warning?)
