It is Paul. I don't know if mmm knew when he opened the thread, but the source for it is Peter Asher, brother of Jane, half of Peter & Gordon. He is not going to be passing off a fake as the real thing. It's obviously a short little tape where Paul's showing him the tune.

Hm. The voice itself sounds like Paul to me (except for that rising "allow", which I could almost swear was George!), the phrasing less so. But I'll bet I'm half-consciously telling myself the phrasing sounds wrong because I'm accustomed to the way P&G sang the original. I agree: Either Paul or an excellent imitation.

Incidentally, I heard this while lounging around my mother's swimming pool last summer, and she was surprised when I told her that it was a MacLen composition. Seemed strange that she was unaware, since she'd known the song since it was released. Would DJs have not taken ...
