The trouble with having so many people in different time zones is that I can go to bed with the forum a peaceful place, then wake up to a big old row.

Cool it, guys, please. You clearly don't get on, so can't you just give each other a wide berth?

The quality of these threads really degrades quite rapidly when they go off-topic and descend into name calling. It's boring for the rest of us, and I do wish you'd stop it. This goes for the Paul v George thread too, which could have been a more interesting discussion but is now looking rather sorry. Please don't make me have to start locking topics.

As for the German thing, really, perceived national characteristics shouldn't figure here. I'd hate it if everything I wrote was judged against some weird belief of what English people are like. (Also I love Germany – Berlin is my favourite place in the whole world, and I'm planning a Beatles pilgrimage to Hamburg.)

I'll give the last word to our very good friend Mr Richard Starkey MBE:

I tried not to start anything. It's paulsbass that goes on this site for the soul purpose of correcting my english and insulting me.

It takes two people to make an argument.

I'd like to be, under the sea, in an octopus's garden, with you

make your administrator sigh

you're not old enough to know better,

so cry, baby, cry…"

I'm reluctant to start banning people, but I have been considering downgrading people's posting privileges for a short time until things cool down.

One other thing: if I step in and try to keep the peace, I don't really want a response along the lines of "It wasn't me who started it, it was him." That's a surefire way to prolong a conflict and it doesn't really help matters.

I'm locking this topic as I think the original subject has been answered.

Please don't spoil my day; I'm miles away
