It's just noisy, abrasive rock and roll, it's not got any of the "technical" side which characterises most metal. It's more proto-proto-punk in it's execution and style. In the same way Blue Cheer, mentioned by Old Siam Sir, are more just psychedelic blues rock to my ears. They were just heavier than anyone before.

Very true. My dad says "They do do dough don't they" a lot but he didn't even realise it was a line from Yellow Submarine 'til he watched it again after so many years.
