Wait ” was originally recorded in June, 1965 for the Help ! album. However, it remained in the vault until that November, when it was dusted off for Rubber Soul . Does anyone know what exactly was added during the Rubber Soul sessions? I’m interested as to what it would’ve sounded like on Help !

You can read about the Wait recording sessions at Moggical Mystery Tour, a blog that reworked the Rock Band extractions into as near their original state as possible. All of the Rubber Soul tracks and most of the Pepper ones have been dissected and and are simply incredible. You can also download each of the seperate tracks and listen to them, this includes Take 4 before the Rubber Soul overdubs.

As for what additional work the beatles did to the track to spruce it up the blog writes:

Overdubbed onto the finished Take 4 was percussion by Ringo; a tambourine and maracas, extra tone lead guitar by George, and some final vocal harmonies double-tracking the existing vocal in places by John and Paul. John’s lead vocal however would remain single-tracked, with only the choruses double-tracked by him in places.

Thank you for the info, and for that blog. Very informative.

On an unrelated note, may I ask where you found that uncropped version of the Rubber Soul cover?

Ringo’s drumming on this is so much fun, I think he would have liked how much the drums change depending on where the track is. One of the songs where you can see why they found the songs were becoming more interesting when recording in the studio.

Wait ” is such a minimalistic song title that it’s hard for me mentally separate it from Ringo’s six fast tom-hits that precede it.
