I consider Help! to be the last vestiges of the early Beatlemania era, and it's inclusion as the final track acts like a nice send-off to the old "rock and roll" days. A nice bit of nostalgia before moving onto bigger things in the next two albums. I find that "Run For Your Life" serves a similar function on Rubber Soul, for the group's folky country & western stuff.

Never had the benefit (or problem ) of listening to it in its 'correct' place on Help!.

Ive always taken that line to mean that the singer, in this case Ringo, was always thinking about the girl but she was so self-obsessed and only thought about herself as well, hence the next line "you never even thought of me as someone with a name". its a really cool play on words. I love What Goes On, one of my fave Beatles songs, not just on Rubber Soul.

Ohhh, right, i get it...thanks for that. I agree, What Goes On is a great song, unexpected highlight of RS, definately my favourite Ringo number.

IIRC corectly the band were a bit against it, too, but it was Brian's decision to put it out.

Reading the article on this very site... interesting, I wasn't aware that Brian had that much power over single releases.
