Good Night is a good to great late period ballad from someone who still appeared to be the violent Beatle. Beautiful Boy is Amazing however!

I replied that yeah, it's a true shame, but at least 2 Lennon/McCartney songs were inspired by him. One by John, and another by Paul.

 

I guess you're right about Good Night, it feels like a song that John didn't care much. And considering it was a lullaby to Julian, it really makes me angry. It's one of my least favorite White Album songs.

Maybe John just thought it sounded better when Ringo sang it.

There's roughly 12 year gap between the two songs. The John of Good Night doesn't feel this is manly thing to do, so he plays it off as a joke. The John of Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy) is thrilled to have a second chance. Cold comfort for Julian, I'm sure, but he did write the song for him even if he was almost too embarrassed to admit it.

Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy):

- Featured only a small collection of musicians recording, including John on guitar (I believe).

- The song is specifically about a man's son, and how excited he is to raise him.
