OfflineI'm not even sure "Revolution 9" can be considered a song. It's more of a conceptual abstraction of abstract conceptualization. Sorry. Can't think of any way to describe it actually.
Anyway, I don't avoid it. If I'm listening to White Album late at night, I'll lay down on the couch and listen to R9 with the room dark, eyes closed. It really does evoke a strange atmosphere.
I grew up in a really small farm town that was pretty remote. There weren't even many radio stations we could pick up in the 60s and 70s when I was growing up. At night, most stations would amp their broadcast power down, so signals were iffy at best. If you drove anywhere with the radio on, the signals would come in and out. And that's exactly what Revolution 9 sounds like to me. When the crowd chants "Block that kick! Block that kick!" I drift back to my days of Friday night high school football. It's almost a time machine for me.
So when I hear it at night, in the dark, it actually relaxes me. And then when Ringo comes on, crooning "Good Night", I almost automatically slip away into dreamland…

OfflineThe first few times I heard it, I would've been about 11, it freaked me out, I think I my have ran to my mom once or twice…. Now that I'm used to it, I'll listen to it voluntarily, and sometimes choose to listen to it for the quotes and various other spoken bits and interesting sounds. For some reason, I particularly like how George says "eldorado".

I read somewhere that is considered "musique concrète".

At least no one has done a cover version of it.
In fact, Wikipedia states that there's at least four covers by Phish, Def FX, Little Fyodor and Alarm Will Sound.

And that's FTW!

Yeah didn't Phish play the whole White Album at one of their concerts?
They did.
They need to work the first part, they need a lower-pitch, soft voice for "number nine" part too. The last section is fine.
