I enjoy Run For Your Life! I agree with a-hard-days-night-ringo-8. I wouldn't say it's the worst song on Rubber Soul but John probably just saw it as an 'album filler'. Other songs I think which are perfectly rated are:

  • A Day In The Life
  • I've Just Seen A Face
  • All My Loving
  • I've Got A Feeling

But I never thought of it as anything more than a fine end-of-an album Beatle song. Good little mid-Beatles years production - trite lyrics and all. (Didn't the Rolling Stones sing "Under My Thumb"? I don't hear any catcalls)

As to what "consensus" opinion is, that might be harder to guage. Everybody knows that "A Day In The Life" is universally praised and that "Mr. Moonlight" (which I like) is much-loathed, obviously. But in between those two, there can be surprises: Until I started posting here two years ago, I had no idea that so many people disliked "Run For Your Life" so strongly! For the sake of avoiding a giant hissy fit, I'm going to ask that people not mention "Mr. Moonlight," since it causes quite a bit of Broken Base. I know people who like it and people who hate it. I personally dislike it, but I don't want to cause a war here.
