I disagree.

It would take a lot of it’s spirit away if would only be 3.25. However, I do think 8 minutes is too long.

Overrated:

  • Penny Lane – When I first heard this song, I thought is was just a happy little tune about the neighborhood, and though the chorus is really nice, that’s about it.
  • Norwegian Wood – It’s great that they brought new innovation to music, but the song is just way too overblown
  • Yesterday /Hey Jude /Let it Be – Too overplayed
  • Michelle – I feel like everyone is so caught up on saying it’s underrated that it’s overrated. I keep hearing the name over and over again, and once I heard the actual song, I felt that it’s rating was just fine. I just find it a bit dull.

Underrated:

Same here. It’s in my top ten, maybe #2 or #3, after The Fool On The Hill . My list changes a lot though.

Does anyone else think that Till There Was You is really overrated? at least among Beatles fans?

I don’t like it because George is flat picking a classical guitar, and that just doesn’t sound good. Classical guitars have so much potential when played finger style, and in my opinion, a pick really takes away all the beauty and tastefulness from those guitars. I think I would like it better if they recorded it the same way they played it on the Ed Sullivan.

A song I think is really underrated is I Need You . That’s probably my favorite George song and my favorite song on Help

I’ve posted here before, but only in response to Mimi, so here goes.

Overrated:

  • Hey Jude (Excess of na-na — fun live, but all that’s unnecessary in the studio.)
  • All You Need Is Love (Kind of an anthem, but a bit more popular than it should be given there are better songs from both the albums it’s on.)

Well… those are the only ones I’d say are really overrated. I considered others, too, but just because I’ve heard them a million times doesn’t necessarily make them overrated (Come Together and With A Little Help From My Friends , for examples…)

Underrated:

  • Misery (I really like it in terms of early Beatles, it’s probably just not well-known enough.)
  • Hey Bulldog  (Awesome rocker, plus I named myself after it. Similar situation as above.)
  • Piggies (I think that everybody knows, oh yeah.)
  • I’ve Got A Feeling (Another great rocker, some of my favorite Paul vocals with the Beatles.)
  • Oh! Darling (Sorta switches between tempos in a really cool way, from the smoother, calm sadness to the downright screaming angst… LOVE this song.)
  • What Goes On (A Ringo tune usually seen as a throwaway, the worst on Rubber Soul , etc. But I really like it, honestly.)
  • Boys (A Ringo-sung cover that really isn’t talked about much. It’s just a really fun little early Beatles rocker.)
  • Don’t Pass Me By (For some reason, I really love this song… I don’t know, it just has a really good melody in my opinion. The fiddle is interesting, a nice touch.)
  • Rocky Raccoon (I’ve always really liked Paul’s story songs, and this is no exception.)
  • Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da (Same as above)
  • Cry Baby Cry (This one has grown on me a lot lately.)

Overrated:

Hey Jude (everybody says it’s one the beatles best songs…I disagree…besides that it’s so overplayed that I got sick of it)

Paperback Writer (kind of a “sister” song of Day Tripper , no big deal about it)

Lucy In The Sky (I love this song but it gets too much praise…there are others better beatles psychedelic songs besides this one)

All You Need Is Love (never got the “hype” that this song has…it gets boring listening to it after a while)

Come Together (too overplayed)

Underrated:

Rain (Amazing song!)

I’ve Just Seen A Face

I’m Only Sleeping

The Night Before (it could have been a hit song!)

You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away

If I Needed Someone

For No One

Hey Bulldog

Indeed, George’s ’67 tunes get kind of a bad rap, for whatever reason.  “It’s All Too Much ” gets my vote as most criminally underrated Beatles tune of all time.

I saw a tribute band about a month ago, and they were smart to avoid those two songs.

Overrated:

Eleanor Rigby : I’ve Heard it too many times. Its Not even Paul’s Best Writing. Yet i Hear on so many sites putting this in the top 10. I Like it but i’m Sick of it. But i don’t Skip it on Revolver when i listen to it. I Think it’s a part of the listening experience.

Hey Jude : NA NA NA NA NA NA NA!!!!!!!!!!!! NA NA NA NA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hey Jude !!!!. I Don’t Mind it but it gets too much airplay and recognition. I understand it being a hit. it has a memorable chorus and its something that the General Public can listen to but i just think its a little too Memorable. Paul Wrote better songs that many people don’t talk about. But i still like Hey Jude

Yesterday : Look at Hey Jude

Here Comes The Sun : It’s Upbeat but it isn’t George’s Best song. He has lots of good ones like Piggies , While My Guitar Gently Weeps , Savoy Truffle , The Inner Light , If I Needed Someone . Those songs need more Recognition. Like Eleanor Rigby i have just heard it enough

Hello, Goodbye : Look at Hey Jude

Love Me Do : It’s Just too simple for me. I do like how it was a foray into other and better Beatles Hit’s Though.

Underrated:

Komm Gib Mir Denie Hand and Sie Liebt Dich – Its Intresting to listen to these i think. I Wonder if The Beatles Recorded Other hits in german. (Although its probably good that they didn’t. It Could get a little redundant)

She’s A Woman – Probably My Favorite Beatles Song. It has Awesome vocals by Paul. Amazing Guitar Riffs. Just Great. I Think This should have been the A-Side Instead of I Feel Fine .

Fixing A Hole – I Like this song. Has a great Melody and while it i’snt as strong of a song as A Day In A Life or She’s Leaving Home . I Still get probably as much Satisfaction out of the track. its one of My Favorite Paul Songs and i think it sticks out more than some of his more well-known work (I’m Looking at You Hey Jude and Eleanor Rigby )

Rain : My 2nd Favorite Beatles Song. I Love the Trippy Vocals and Guitar Effects. This Should have been put on Revolver in the Place of Eleanor Rigby .(Sorry i Keep Bringing it up). It’s a Fun Track

Till There Was You : I Got introduced to the cover when i was in a School Play for The Music Man About 6 Months Ago. I Think it does the original song justice. It has a Great Vocal by Paul.

I’m Only Sleeping : Great Trippy Track. I for the same reasons as Rain

I Think that Rolling Stone should do a cover story of The Rolling Stones covering "Like a Rolling Stone" or if a Type of Beetle was named after The Beatles.

I personally can’t quite agree here, HCTS doesn’t even compare to Piggies . Those are good songs, but what IS the best George’s best song then? Something and Here Comes The Sun are among his best. It’s like Hey Jude – he’s / they’re more than that, but those are one of their best songs, overrated or not.

Overrated: Hello Goodbye (I like this song, but IMO, it’s songs like this being so popular that turns a lot of people away from the Beatles.)

Love Me Do (It’s a decent early sixties love song, but nothing more.)

Drive My Car (I’m sorta on and off with this song; sometimes I love it and sometimes not so much.)

Believe it or not, I don’t find “Hey Jude ” overrated. Not even a little! Sorry.

Underrated: Things We Said Today

Anytime At All (My fav song on AHDN )

                 You Won’t See Me

                 Lovely Rita

                 I Need You

It’s All Too Much (George is playing like Hendrix here!)

Oh! Darling (Paul’s best vocal  performance)

                 Dig A Pony

                 I’m Only Sleeping

                 Old Brown Shoe

                 And Your Bird Can Sing

                 Fixing A Hole

                 I Will

Everybody’s Got Something To Hide Except For Me And My Monkey

                 I Me Mine

That’s all I can think of right now!

I think simply putting some songs in Underrated/Overrated section doesn’t make much sense so Im going to compare songs from the same albums

I think overrated are those songs which gets more recognition then it deserves. If Bohemian Rhapsody will get continuously played on radio then i don’t think it will make it overrated, it’s a masterpiece.

Please Please Me
Overrated: Love Me Do
Underrated: Please Please Me

Hard Days Night
Overrated: I Should Have Known Better (hardly seems to make any proper sense, sounds like a filler. I first listened to it while watching the film. I think School Girls who were goingbeatlemaniacs_02_gif  hooked me)
Underrated: Any Time At All (Rocking vocals, catchy lyrics and melody and that Piano is coo-ol-ool)

HELP!
Overrated: Night Before and Another Girl (both are catchy popy songs but not the best work)

Underrated: I Need You (Guys have you ever listened to this song properly, just close eyes and listen to the melody and lyrics. This song is a great great addition to the album)

Rubber Soul

Overrated: Nothing, every thing is perfect a-hard-days-night-ringo-15

Underrated: Think For Your Self & Run For Your Life (Both are great but not a gem but if we take the elvis’s lyrics out then John’s lyrics are quite innocent and George’s tune was the most different on the album)

Singles 1965
Overrated: We Can Work It Out (It’s another Jane’s attitude inspired song, catchy, Pop, relate-able lyrics but not as good as Day Tripper )

Underrated: Day Tripper (this song has got one of the heaviest riff of 60s and it could be a bigger hit than I can get no satisfaction if lyrics were more appealing to the new listeners )

Hey Jude (haters) don’t make it bad, take a sad song and make it better a-hard-days-night-paul-5

The Huffington Post has two articles both highlighting five songs (so ten in total) that they feel are underrated: part one and part two.

Most pleasing is the inclusion of ‘It’s Only Love ‘ which often gets a bit of a kicking.

Underrated Songs?

The reprise of Sgt Peppers is regarded as such a throwaway tune that it’s easy to overlook how awesome this track is. The fact that it segs into A Day In The Life doesn’t help it but it’s the Beatles at their heaviest and totally underrated.

A mention for One After 909 – The Beatles doing what they did best – Rocking Out!

The Beatles are English - They have influences from all over - but they are English
