My sister thought that the nurse in Penny Lane was, "selling bodies from a train,"

A mate of mine also thought that Mull Of Kintyre went, "Mull of Kintyre, oh me strolling in from the sea, my desire..."

"I don't think we were actually swimming, as it were, with shirts on, 'cos we always wear overcoats when we're swimming,"-

George Harrison, Australia, June 1964

I've got a few...

in Birthday, I always thought they were singing "Yes, we're going to a garden party."

But it's "Yes we're going to a party party."

Another is  Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da. Always thought they were singing "With a couple of kids running in the yard, while Desmond and Molly joke."

But it's actually, "With a couple of kids running in the yard Of Desmond and Molly Jones."

How's this for an obscure and unnecessary example?

For years, I was convinced that the line in "Two Of Us" was --

Two of us,

sending postcards,

writing letters,

on the wall.

When the last line, of course, is "on my wall".

Faded flowers, wait in a jar, till the evening is complete... complete... complete... complete...

Of course, there's Dylan's famous misheard lyric in I Want To Hold Your Hand ("I get high, I get high!") Funny enough, I *never* heard that, it always sounded like "I can't hide" to me, even as a small child. But then, I wasn't smoking pot when I first heard it that way Zimmy was.a-hard-days-night-john-5

"I know you, you know me; one thing I can tell you is you got to be free!"

I thought for years the backing in paperback writer were "ravi shankar", still sounds like that nowadays.

He told us not to get overwhelmed by grief and whatever thoughts we have... to keep them happy, because any thoughts we have of him will travel to him wherever he is. (John Lennon - 27/8/67)

In Strawberry Fields Forever, I always thought the lyric was "No more laughing kids in my tree."  Now I know it's really "No one I think is in my tree." That makes a bit more sense. Sort of.

I thought the the first line in Norwegian Wood was, "I wanted a girl, or should I say, she wanted me" which kind of made sense. When I found out that it was "once had" not "wanted" it gave the song a whole new meaning.

Also, in She Came In Through The Bathroom Window, I thought it was "She said she'd always bid on answers," not "She said she'd always been a dancer."

"When I get older, losing my head, many years from now"

I still think of it that way and sing it like that because I still hear it that way, and like it better anyways.

Okay not a Beatles lyric, but it's Paul McCartney and it's almost Christmas so I'm going to post it anyway!

In Once Upon A Long Ago I heard ''Bitches plan, while hand in hand'', which I knew couldn't be right, obviously.

So I just googled the actual lyrics and it's ''Nature's plan, went hand in hand''. Ah, that makes a lot more sense actually.

a-hard-days-night-ringo-8LOL, that's funny.

In Happiness Is A Warm Gun, I always hear "Down to the bitch that I left uptown," so every time I listen to it I have to think for a couple seconds and figure out what the actual word is.

In "Eleanor Rigby" I always thought Father McKenzie wiped the "death" (symbolically) from his hands as he walked from the grave. I just recently discovered it was "dirt". A little less poetic, but makes more sense.

To the fountain of perpetual mirth, Let it roll for all its worth.

I always thought that Paul/John were singing "Give me a bone" in Young Blood.

Some other ones from when I was little...

"Can't Bonnie Love?" (And if not, why does Tony Sheridan want her back?)

"Cheesy love with me, and I feel fine..."

"We're all alone and-a nobody else, you still monkey'd your hands to your self..."

"I look at all the lonely people..."

"That ignorance and hate may warn the day/warm the dead..."

"Come, give me dine a hand..."

The "wiping the dirt from his hands" in Eleanor Rigby can be taken, and has been, to reference Father McKenzie wiping away any blame or guilt he felt or was attached to him over Eleanor's death.

Dont know if its been said above but another misheard lyric from Eleanor Rigby is "picks up her eyes in the church...".

He told us not to get overwhelmed by grief and whatever thoughts we have... to keep them happy, because any thoughts we have of him will travel to him wherever he is. (John Lennon - 27/8/67)

I still hear that, I don't even know the real lyrics lol. I should google them or something.

Edit: oh it's ''bits''. I actually liked bitch better.

I thought that "Yes we're going to a party party" in Birthday was "Yes we're going to a pirate party,"- which probably makes more sense.

Before I watched the movie: A Hard Day's Night the lyric from the song: "Tell me Why" sounded to me like: "but you left me sitting on my arm". It was too late when I realised it was "own" instead of "arm" lol.

EDIT: This happened literally just now, I thought the outro to "I'm Looking Through You" was Ka-Ching Ka-Ching, realised it was You've changed You've Changed.

"And in the End the Love you take is equal to the Love you make"
"When I was a robber *Piano Chord* in Boston Place"
"Let's hope this turns out pretty darn good huh"
"Pete may be the best, but Ringo is the star"
Paul:"Don't be nervous John"
John:"I 'm not"

Make up funny lyrics that someone could confuse with the real lyrics- example: "Sweep, city starling, doughnut rye," instead of "Sleep, pretty darling, do not cry," or something random like that. It doesn't have to make sense or be that funny, like mine wasn't. Sorry if this doesn't make sense.

Basically, it's like the Misheard Lyrics thread, except the lyrics you post weren't actually misheard by you.

I don't know how to say this to make it clear. I'll try to clarify more if you don't understand this.

Note by Ahhh Girl: posts 179-188 were a separate thread and were merged into this one on 5 May 2014.

John would be good at this lol.

I'll edit this post once I get some ideas during this boring lecture.
