I really like the song.  I think it’s probably the Burnette brothers’ best song (not that I’ve listened to their “canon”…at any rate as good as any teenager can write (except Paul and John a-hard-days-night-george-10

On of my absolute favourites off the BBC albums.

"Please don't bring your banjo back, I know where it's been..  I wasn't hardly gone a day, when it became the scene..  Banjos!  Banjos!  All the time, I can't forget that tune..  and if I ever see another banjo, I'm going out and buy a big balloon!"

Again i adore George’s guitar work on this (can say that for some many of the BBC covers), John’s vocal is gorgeous and i love John’s spoken intro, especially the bit at the end. What didn’t he nick?

And John nicked the riff of this and used it at the closing of ‘The Ballad Of John And Yoko ‘.

The speech preceding this: 1822! reached 1,000 plays on my iTunes when I was a kid. I used to recite it all the time. Lonesome Tears in My Eyes is a brilliant song, with a brilliant vocal performance complete with the yodelling “You told me.”

Heard this number before I had ever heard Ballad Of John and Yoko, but I always thought it was a really cool throwback.
