7 Takes of Im Down were recorded (ive got a book next to me with the answer). I thinks its easier to get energized by a live crowd which generates more electricity in the performance (if the audience is awake); i cant think of a live recording the beatles did which was lifeless and by that time they were on the verge of being bored senseless in concert.

Oh ok the first night in Japan they sound beyond not interested verging on giving up entirely and having a sit down.

I don't think it's unusual for a band to want to be less restrained live than in the studio, at least while they still had the heart to not just go through the motions. Also take into consideration how many studio takes of "I'm Down" they tried before arriving at a master. (Don't know how many they did offhand, suppose I could look it up...)

Not to bump my ancient thread, but I've always wondered... What exactly is it about the studio version of this that lacks the energy of the live versions? By all intent, it should be a hard rocker, but I always felt that the recording never quite gets off the ground.

This is one of the songs that I will start over if I flub even one of the words. It is such a rocking bluesy tune that is incredibly fun to sing.

The screaming however, is out of my league as well. I settle for a loud and boisterous "wooooo" instead.

Has any male here ever seriously tried to keep up with Paul's singing on "I'm Down"? I'm a tenor and have pretty good high notes but Paul's stamina is really in a league of its own. One of his best vocals.

I think I could manage the regular song, if not as spectacular as Paul.

But his screaming parts are just out of my league.

Hahaha, yeah, they really messed that one up!

Funny, how Paul realizes he's doing the wrong verse at 1.05, and the break afterwards.

Sounds cool with the second guitar, very rocky.

Nice screaming, nice soloing by George!
