OfflineYou mean the unedited/long version of I'll Cry Instead was only on the US album release called "A Hard Day's Night" like this one?

OfflineThat was released in the US but not in the UK. The First UK release with the extra verse featured on the American Release of the AHDN and The American Album Something New was the Capital Albums Box set Volume 1. Specifically Disc 3 Entitled Something New

OfflineI guess it was only on the mono edition of that album – I owned "Something New" for a time, and it had the shorter 1:49 versionIsn't it more accurate to call the shorter version the "unedited" one? That extra verse was apparently just a repeat of the first verse artificially spliced in at the end, after all.
Also, I'm probably alone in this, but I wish Richard Lester had used "I'll Cry Instead" rather than "Can't Buy Me Love" for the AHDN fire-escape sequence, as was originally intended. But maybe that's just because I think "Cry" is the better song…

OfflineWhile I agree that I'll Cry Instead is a better song – at the time AHDN came out Can't Buy Me Love really captured the
exuberance of Beatlemania.
Just consider the opening lyrics – Can't buy love me, oh! versus "I got every reason on earth to be sad"
Given the positive slant of Can't Buy Me Love versus the blues tone of I'll Cry Instead, I thinkn Dick Lester made the right choice – even though I prefer I'll Cry Instead as a song.

OfflineYeah, and hadn't "Can't Buy Me Love" already been a #1 hit months before the movie was even released? That may have been a factor too.
Also, they had to artificially lengthen "I'll Cry Instead" to match the amount of film footage they wanted to use, so that had to be taken into account too.

OP:- Do you mean this one? If so, it was first issued on a commercially issued AHDN VHS in the 1980's.
Yeah, it was SUPPOSED to be…but the VHS copy I bought (and still own) never had it! "Over 15 minutes of bonus footage!" claims the box. "Approx. time 108 minutes" claims the box. "Approx. 90 minutes" claims the tape itself, wtf?! And yeah I bought it new/sealed, so it's not like I bought a used copy of the original inside of the New! Improved! version's box. Weird…

OnlineI have both versions of 'I'll Cry Instead' this is one of my favorite Lennon songs.
The song with the extra first verse first appeared on the United Artist album 'A Hard Day's Night'. Both the mono and Stereo versions of this album have the extrra verse. there is only a mono mix though of this version. The Stereo AHDN has this version in re channeled Stereo. (It is interesting that United Artists used re channeled mixes for the Beatle songs but all the George Martin Instrumentals are in true Stereo.
Regarding 'Something New', the extra verse is only in the mono version of this album. Buy the way, you also get the version of 'And I Love Her' on the AHDN album with McCartney's vocal not double tracked as well as on 'Something New'

Since the unedited version of I'll Cry Instead is 1:46, I think the other song called "I Me Mine" is 1:34. But then, Spector edited it to make it longer which is 2:25 because the repeat of the chorus and second verse is heard. Right, guys?
Yes. The same edit was used on Let It Be Naked
